Grasshoppers are herbivorous insects of the suborder Caelifera in the order Orthoptera. To distinguish them from bush crickets or katydids, they are sometimes referred to as short-horned grasshoppers. Species that change colour and behaviour at high population densities are called locusts. any profits made from the purchase of this piece, will be donated to the wildlife-appeal
This cute bug pair was in my butterfly mint bush this afternoon. I added a few flowers just for the romance factor! ;-)
Poor little fella found its way inside today…..minding its own business, sitting on the photocopier – I just had to take its photo – so accommodating, looking right at me!!!!!! It did escape in the end:)) Featured in Olympus Four Thirds Group and Extreme Close-ups /

This male Eastern bluebird loves to show off his catch before delivering it to the babies in the nesting box. A bright green grasshopper is his latest prize, and he’s displaying it here very proudly! I used to think the meal would be divided among the babies, but as they grow older, I think it’s one grasshopper, whole and sometimes live, down the gullet for one awaiting chick! Ravenous and sometimes raucous, babies bluebirds give their parents a full day’s work hunting up offerings for the table!
My 3rd capture of this friendly intruder :-)

This grasshopper held its leaf, and I backed off. It had one of those ‘don’t mess with me’ looks. Taken in my magical garden in the mountains of Mae Hong Son province, Thailand.
We drove through a field today on our way to the dump. It’s so dry here in Montana! There are just thousands of grasshoppers everywhere, they covered the hood of the car…. They looked so hungry, I wouldn’t get out to throw out the trash! Well, you can believe that if you want to…lol Photoshopped from several photos taken today with my Nikon D300. Combined photos, and painted teeth…Photoshop Elements 7. Part of my story is true, we did find these hoppers at the dump….:) / Thank you! Featured in Rural Around the Globe 7/31/09 / Thank you!

Here is Mack again….what a ham.
I noticed the grasshopper and the bee on the same flower. The bee was busy and didn’t notice as he went slowly around the flower until he bumped into the grasshopper. I happened to catch this picture. It looks to me as if the bee is scolding the grasshopper….as he should….look at the damage on this flower caused by grasshoppers. A lot of our flowers look like this and worse. So I hope that bee gave that grasshopper a few words on the subject. below shows the play by play until the stand off! ha ha / The Encounter /

Mt Kosciusko spotted mountain Grasshopper / Most insects die when temperatures reach freezing (0ºC) but the Spotted Mountain Grasshoppers spend the winter beneath the snow in all intact (growth stages) until they are adults.
