  • I have been contemplating it for some time, I guess just trying to brush up on my skills first. / I believe that every artist must do at least one self portrait, so I figured my first would have to incorporate my first love, music into the theme. / This was somewhat of a challenge, firstly because this is the way people see me, whereas I am so used to seeing a mirrored version of myself; my eyebrow ring is on the right in the mirror and my scar on my chest from when both my lungs collapsed when I was 16, etc. / Also I realised that I hate drawing bloody guitars! the strings, frets and tiny numbers on the knobs are way too detailed even for my pool of patience. The guitar in Elvis Costello wasn’t so bad because i only had to do a tiny section of two of the strings, but ah oh well, these are the challenges we artists have to conquer in order to improve :) / I took my own reference photos using the timer on my digital camera, and lots of different poses. By The way, for those who have asked, yes I AM in a band. / Straitjacket Fashion Completed 10th Jan, 2009 / Graphite pencils, 2H, HB, 2B, 6B, 8B on Reeves White Paper, A3

  • An old ‘try-out’ design I sketched up for this T-shirt company, back in ‘06. They took a pass. Wasn’t ‘hipster’ enough for them, I guess … Which is just fine by me. Nuts to hipster culture.

  • Portrait of Louie Armstrong
    by Carrie Glenn

    US$4.66–US$106.40

Charcoal, graphite and ink on paper. My inspiration for this piece is Jazz, pure soulful and uninhibited jazz. Easy and yet complex were the sounds that drifted from Louie’s trumpet. From his trumpet playing to his rich vocals, Louie’s music is a great inspiration to me. I try to capture his depth of character and defined talent through my portrait. I created countless layers of meticulous details conveying everything from the veins in his hands to his handkerchief and the gleam in his eyes that says, he loves what he does. My goal was to truly capture Louie’s soul. ...I can hear his voice singing the song “What a Wonderful Life”...every time I look at this image, which is what inspired me to draw this piece. Enjoy! • Portrait of Vincent Price
    by Carrie Glenn

    US$4.66–US$106.40

/ My ‘Portrait of Vincent Price’ is officially published in the coffee table book Artists of the West / For information on purchasing a signed copy of the book, go to Carrie Glenn Studios Thanks! RedBubble Awards: Winner Of The Pencil Drawing Group Contest* / ” Human Emotion “ Read the Write Up Here My drawing was featured in the group The Eyes Have It / (Thanks Everyone!) 5”x8” Charcoal, graphite and ink on paper. There is hardly enough time or words to sum up Vincent Price properly. He was a teacher, an actor, a collector of art and a chef to name a few. He had a true philanthropists heart and was a man of many talents and a creative pioneer. He has left a fingerprint on our society and myself. In my portrait of Vincent, in every wrinkle I reproduced, in every mole I fastidiously drew and in every single hair I portrayed I see his achievements. There are many fine details in this portrait. You will see the veins in his eyes countered by the shine and drama I captured in them. You will see every wrinkle on his hand and every whisker in his mustache. It is designed to transport you back to the last film you may have seen him in and capture that vivid memory. As you study this piece you can almost hear his voice still speaking.
