Emotive piece of art drawn in Graphite Pencil…L K Southward- Iconic Art UK Nominated for ‘Pay it Forward’ by Andy Mueller IPA “I have so many favorite works of art on the bubble that it is tough to narrow it down to just one. But every time I see this one, I know it is the one piece that triggers the most emotion out of me. So, I’d love to submit my Pay It Forward to a wonderful British Artist L K Southward and her graphite pencil drawing called “This is your son”. Every time I see this drawing, I have tears welling up in my eyes. I have been contemplating it for some time, I guess just trying to brush up on my skills first. / I believe that every artist must do at least one self portrait, so I figured my first would have to incorporate my first love, music into the theme. / This was somewhat of a challenge, firstly because this is the way people see me, whereas I am so used to seeing a mirrored version of myself; my eyebrow ring is on the right in the mirror and my scar on my chest from when both my lungs collapsed when I was 16, etc. / Also I realised that I hate drawing bloody guitars! the strings, frets and tiny numbers on the knobs are way too detailed even for my pool of patience. The guitar in Elvis Costello wasn’t so bad because i only had to do a tiny section of two of the strings, but ah oh well, these are the challenges we artists have to conquer in order to improve :) / I took my own reference photos using the timer on my digital camera, and lots of different poses. This one I had on my ‘to do’ list for a while, but I kept putting it off because I knew it was going to be a challenge. / Once I started it however, it eventually came together bit by bit. / It is my daughter Chloe being her naturally radiant and colourful self. / For the first time i used no blending tools; no tissue, no paper stumps. This is all done with pencil strokes only!!! This is the one that the eye in Her Eyes Couldn’t Help But Be Drawn In… was the beginning of. Completed 28th February, 2009. / Mechanical Graphite pencils 3H, HB & 2B on Reeves A3 white paper. Original For Sale

Chief Dan George has been Featured in / The Eyes Have It / Fan Frenzy / The Elderly / Who Needs Color For Beauty / 1 0n 1 Fine Art of Portraiture / Spirit of Native America / Wild West Show / Imaginative Realism / Mature Men / Black in Back / !st Place Avadar Challenge ..Placed on Home Page / I did this piece about 23 years ago / / Chief Dan George was born in 1899, North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. and died in 1981 in the same place. He was chief of the Squamish Bandof Burrard inlet, British Columbia from 1951 to 1963. Besides television and the movies, he was also a successful Canadian stage actor. He was a successful poet. Wrote two books of poetry. My Heart Soars 1974, and My Spirit Soars in 1982. He was in several movies such as Little Big Man where he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor 1970. He Always insisted on playing “good” First Nation characters. Until 1959 (when he was 60 years old,) he worked as a longshoreman, logger and itinerant musician. He was awarded the O.C. (Officer of the Order of Canada) in 1971 for his services to Canada. He has a public school named after him in Toronto, Ontario and he is commemorated on one of a set of postage stampls ussued in 2008. / This portrait was on “Home Page”

Artist: Tony Ryan called his photo :Wisdom” but I have titled the drawing from his photo “Grace 2” since this is the second drawing based on his beautiful work. I hope he pleased with what I have done. I only hope I was able to capture a small percents of her true beauty.
