  Link listing of free software relating to graphics and imagery. These are either freeware, open source or donationware – not free trials. Some are “light” or free versions of a full-version software. As with anything, PLEASE READ THE TERMS OF USE and Licensing for each thing you download. Just because it is free that doesn’t always mean you can use it for commercial outputs. I have not tried all of these personally, so I can’t give you recommendations on their functionality; the graphic/paint programs I have used (some I still use for certain things) may have notations of my opinion. Many of these are available for both Mac and PC, but you’ll have to go check at the link site yourself – make sure you check the system requirements before you install anything, and be sure you have an up-to-date antivirus. I have accessed all of these links and downloads with no warnings, but it pays to be safe. One last thing…if you use free software and find it useful, please donate to the creators (or upgrade to the paid version if they have one at reasonable cost). Donations are how we can encourage free software makers to continue making the software free. Please be sure to check the model downloads for licensing terms. If you are unsure about using a model in a sellable product, email the modeler – they are usually very good about responding. Mostly they don’t want you sell or give away the model/mesh, but will usually allow it’s use in a rendered image for sale. If the license doesn’t state that it is available for commercial use, please don’t use it without contacting the owner first. A simple email from them will act as a license for your renders. If they don’t allow it, please don’t do it. Other Useful Utilities PC Inspector Smart Recovery – recover image files from memory cards This is not a complete listing of all freeware available, but it is fairly representational of what’s available, from the simple to the more complex. If anyone has links that fit these categories, please feel free to add them in the comments section, or bmail them to me and I’ll add them into the body with a notation of who submitted them. There are also some drawing & paint programs in the free/open source category available specifically geared to children in age ranges from 4 or 5 to 10 or 12. Encourage the artist in your children from a young age.   Starting my own blog on this cause why the hell not! I WOULD LIKE TO RE-ITERATE SOMETHING SOMEONE SAID, This is an ARTistic community site, I been here since almost the beginning and am seeing a lot of people come here ASSUMING that this is a PHOTOGRAPHY SITE (which can be art too can’t it), BUT SOME DAYS I FEEL LIKE YOU ARE TAKING OVER… So you can take 2000 photos in a day and 1500 of them are good and you can upload them over 1 week. Great… To do a good piece of art take WAY LONGER THAN THAT…. even digital. Just something to consider cause MAN THE ART IS GETTING LOST, SO LOST IT IS MORE THAN ANNOYING. AM I AM A GRAPHIC ARTIST THAT TAKES PHOTOS. It really makes a lot of ‘photographers’ look a bit silly if they are commenting on my images and saying things like ‘nice treatment’. GRAPHIC ARTIST/DESIGNERS don’t really treat photos, we manipulate them and in a lot of cases mutilate them and take them completely out of context. Change light sources, create alternate realities and unrealistic artistic things. SO HERES A BUSHFIRE THAT COULD USE A BLOG OF ITS OWN…. WHERE DOES PHOTOGRAPHY STOP AND GRAPHIC DESIGN START.??? If you clip out a sky and replace it with another one, alter nature, add colouring, tone this, airbrush that, lengthen that body, etc. etc. etc. Aren’t you manipulating the original image and then that becomes GRAPHIC DESIGN??? DIGITAL ART – Art created using a computer. PHOTOGRAPHY – An image captured as close to what the eye can perceive (of course I know that you mess with brightness and contrast and have been doing tweaking forever, but wasn’t that originally to replicate the record of the event)... WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE GET TRICKED BY GRAPHIC DESIGNERS IN THE MEDIA POSING AS PHOTOGRAPHERS. and I AM REALLY SICK OF HEARING ABOUT MONEY HERE… ARE YOU ARTISTS OR INDUSTRY… We all want to make money doing what we love, some of us do art regardless of money…

Here are some of my RB images If animoto had an API I’d buy RedBubble a business account with and do this automatically for everyone’s portfolio. Some people would bitch about using their work out of context or whatever, while others would spread their art around the web.

  Okay, so I’m at the fun and exciting part of my book where I am illustrating bits and pieces here and there. I have been fighting with myself over whether I should go old school and do my picutes in pen and ink like I did when I first started them or make them with my computer like my stuff has evolved into. What do you think? I havent messed with pen and ink in so long…..but a part of me misses it. At the same time, I like being able to do my pictures on the computer too. What should I do? Any advice would be awesome :)

  I’ve been keeping a close eye on the featured and popular pages on Red Bubble, and wondering where all the painters, illustrators and graphic artists are?! There are some AMAZING artists working in these media on the site, but it just seems like they’re all being lost in the system. I have nothing against photography or the photographers, but it’d be nice to see a more even spread. So – do your bit! Upload your best painting, illustrative or graphic pieces Seek out painted and illustrated works Comment, fave and watch! The popular algorithm is a closely guarded Red Bubble secret, however I’m sure doing the above things can help boost painting and illustration on this site. I know we can all help bring attention to the amazing artists on this site who deserve to have a little light shone on them! I will go through my own watch list and select and feature artists who I think deserve to be a little more popular. I have sent in my request to have an Illustration group on RB, and Kathleen emailed me back a few days later and said that many people had requested the same thing and that they were nutting out a plan for launching such a group. I really can’t wait, I do think a group dedicated to illustrators might be the shot in the arm needed for illustrative artists. If you’re with me, let me know!! Spread the word! (I have submitted this to a few groups, please let me know if this is appropriate – because I think it is, and highly beneficial to us all!!)

  Tonite i made a vertical banner thingy to place with my comments that I leave in the comments section in MySpace – cuz it seems that everyone paste some kind of ‘bling’ when leaving comments in there.. so i thought i might as well make good use of that behaviour over there ;) My space there.. is mainly networked within the Psytrance Music community, which include people also make their own fashion labels, decor artist, fire twirlers and performers and other interesting non mainstream type of area.. / click image to see larger I made a few different colour combo so that it can compliment an individuals page.. which also promotes my diversity of style.. NOTE: ARTDICTIVE is another newly hatched idea’project of mine (you will get used to how many projects i have going at the same time, one day…hehe)
