This four year old elf discovered the joys of a harmonica and tooted away through the Thanksgiving holidays. It was pure music to his old Mammy’s ears. I thought I’d tack a Christmas greeting onto my photo of this special elf and share the “harmony” with everyone.
Portraiture is very intrusive – or perhaps intimate is a better word. The artist examines every tiny aspect of a face in close-up detail. I sometimes feel as if I’m invading someone’s personal space. However, the amazing thing is that I make beautiful discoveries and virtually everyone has attractive features and character. Having said that, one is on thin ice when deciding how many laughter lines to record on the face of some ladies. Watercolour and coloured pencils. 18” x 12”
I have been trying out various black and white methods and I thought I should give this one a go. / I took this picture without them knowing. / It looked like although the grandfather didn’t have much money, he still managed to buy is grandson an ice cream. Taken in Bristol on Colston Street.
Right next to his Dad in my son’s world stands PAPA. This man can calm the storm of impending doom( AKA the Temper Tantrum) just by walking into the room. Papa is Rhys’s hero, Papa teaches Rhys how to hold a hammer, and a screwdriver…and even how to tell little fibs so the big bad Momma doesn’t give him hell…lol Isn’t that what Papa’s are for….wink
This is done in Apophysis and Photoshop. News of a Childs Death is such a sorrow - / Spirit guide this child home Loons in the Moonlight
A portrait of my grandson James. He looks so much older on that image,he’s only 4 years old.James doesn’t like the camera, his mother had to tell him to look at an airplane in the sky while playing in the parc,he was pretty high on the manege and I thought that the sky would made an good background…no cropping.
This small town barber shop has been in existence for almost sixty years; my father, 84 years young, is still at the helm, taking care of his clientele who prefer Daddy’s skills (and conversation) to the modern day, slick salons and spas. Here’s the old pro giving a trim to his great-grandson who was in town for the holidays. Visiting Daddy’s barbershop is like a step back in time; it may not be full of fancy products or have fashionable decor, but it’s got character and the old gents who congregate there have interesting stories to tell and rich, abundant lives to share. I feel much more at home there than in the sleek salons.
Some of you may have seen an earlier post of my 84 year old father cutting my 5 year old grandson’s hair. Sandy Stewart gave me the idea to add this image (a different shot) in sepia tones. I also added the diffuse glow filter to give the image a “look back in time” feel to it. Thanks, Sandy, for your suggestion; it was a good one! My father, a WWII veteran who survived the sinking of the Yorktown in the South Pacific, has been cutting hair since post war days. He has a collection of sweet potato labels which are scattered throughout his shop and a ton of other memorabilia on the walls. If you View Larger, you’ll see to Daddy’s left a photo of him cutting my son’s hair. My son, who is now 33 years old, was probably about the same age as my grandson in that picture. When Daddy showed my son the finished haircut by producing a little hand held mirror, Tom always put his hands over his eyes. He was too shy to see his cute little self up close like that! I love the way the generations are documented here and the way Paw Paw Taylor, as my son and grandson call him, is shown still working and still enjoying it in his golden years of life. Hope you like this image, “The way it was and still is . . .” Another view: /

Model – By pinkpaint stock deviantart.com<br />Background - dark_BG anaRasha stock deviantart.com / My sister lost her teenage son to a car accident 2 yrs ago. This poem is for her. There isn’t a day that goes by, that she doesn’t mention him. I miss you! / There are no words that can describe / The grief in this heart of mine / My heart is hidden so deep with tears / It’s hard for me to find It broke my heart for you to leave / And each day brings more pain / Even after years of healing / Deep scars will always remain I will always be thinking of you / Beyond all reams of time / You will never be forgotten / In this heart of mine A son, a brother, and grandson / A nephew, a cousin, and friend / You meant so much to all of us / And that will never end Your spirit touched the heart / Of everyone you knew / And each minute that passes by / A tear will shed for you Your smile, your laughter / Our joy, and now tears / So many memories / In just 17 years Now there’s something missing / Incomplete, what once was whole / Your missed beyond all measure / From the depths of my soul I look to Christ our Savior / For comfort and for strength / I praise him for your life / Though it was short in length There is hope for tomorrow / This I know is true / Because each day I live here on earth / Is one day closer to you
Our grandson becoming one with the earth….

This photo is very special to me. In my hand I hold my Grandfather’s 90 year old vintage Voigtlander Compur folding camera that he bought in Germany in the 1920’s and I’ve taken a photograph of my son through the tiny viewfinder. I cannot articulate the emotions this stirs in me. I bet my grandfather never imagined that one day, in another century, his beloved camera would be used by his granddauther (who he never knew) to photograph his great grandson (who he also never knew). I’m a sentimental fool…............... Best viewed LARGE
