  • As one looks down into the ruins of the old penal settletement of Port Arthur, Australia, it is impossible to be unaware of the haunted quality of the place. The beauty of the setting contrasts uncompromisingly with the stark outlines of the penitentiary, the lunatic asylum, model prison, Isle of the dead, point Puer and it’s mass graves, the 1996 massacre memorial site…. Easily the most imposing ruin on the site, the Penitentiary began its life in 1843 as a flour mill and granary. In 1857 it was converted into a penitentiary capable of housing over 480 convicts in both dormitory-style accommodation and separate apartments. Also containing a messroom, library and Catholic chapel, the penitentiary was flanked by the Watchmens’ Quarters, as well as a range of workshops and an ablutions complex. Gutted in the 1897 fires, the building lay derelict until a concerted conservation program began in the 1960s. • Well . . . I’m still working on it. Then again, I’m always working on everything. However, this will be updated in the next couple of days. It’s extensively Photoshopped. I used the 40-150 zoom, EFL 80-300, but wanted a wide angle look, so I shopped the perspective. It’s cropped and I added sky; this is sort of in line with what I did back my landscape period when I did oils. There’s a filter effect used, Tiffen DFX Halo Effect, after I used the gradient tool to make the sky I created even. I’m getting it to where I want it. That being said . . . I want to get my work where I want it to be. It’s a non-linear process. What you do influences where you go next. I also have commercial concerns, which makes me hate money and its gravity, but nobody guaranteed life would be easy. And so it goes.

  • A very special place

  • Old grain bins in a Central Alberta farm field

  • The granary at Meknes in Morocco was meant to stable 12,000 horses and their feed. It is a vast structure which used under floor reticulation of water and air to keep the place cool in the scorching summers. Most of the roof has long since collapsed but part has been restored and this is where this image was taken.

  • This building just sort of settled into the ground. Once a granary and storehouse for the prairie harvest, it now is waiting the final toll of the bell on its days on earth. This one was taken on the west section of our family farm southwest of Swift Current, Saskatchewan /

  • Just wanted to see how long of a title I could have. / Taken near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, July 9th, 2008. MY BUBBLESITE

  • Built by slaves, the remains of the Meknes granary in Morocco is an interesting look into times past.

  • The old shed in our yard as i was growing up. Always full of old relics, toys and antiques, but unfortunately they were taken to the dump at a time I was too young to say NOOOO!! A collection of hubcaps put on the front by my father. The building still stands today. Just north of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Taken with: Minolta – Maxxum 7000i, AF Lens 28-85

  • The Old Granary pub and restaurant on the banks of the River Frome in Wareham, Dorset. / As you can see, the river is navigable from Poole Harbour. Thank you for looking. / Hope you like it. Best Viewed Large.

  • ~ Photo taken on the southern approach to Balaklava, Sth Aust, looking westward from the main road. Actual Silos are about 1-1.5 kilometre off the from the road. These silos are huge and totally dominant the surrounding flatland in all directions. Once again… it was blowing a cold-wind gale, when I reluctantly stopped to get-out of my nice warm and cosy Toyota to take this shot. ~ Companion piece/image Cash Crops “Silver Silos” was featured in “Tone It Down”! on 26 Sept 2009

  • ~ I’ll leave it to you to figure why I might have called this “Cash Crops” ... Hint: See the large “money boxes” in the distant centre. ~ Larger 1200×900 detail view here ~ Companion piece/image Silver Silos
