  • A planned get-together with a mate fell through. So instead my son and I went to North Narrabeen beach and took advantage of some magical light and conditions to capture the coast during winter time.    / For a very long time this image was my favourite. I was just amazed at how much light was absorbed by the wooden planks, contrast that with the smooth silky water. • It happened that a Dog had got a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath. Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more. Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow

  • Another macro of studs in an old and very weather beaten oak door. / Taken with a Pentax k20D and a Sigma 50 mm 1:2.8 macro. / In contrast to “Stud”, this is a “head on” shot. / Here again, the picture itself is untouched, witht he black frame added for “dramatic emphasis”. / Seen with my German/ Irish soul through my Irish eyes ;o) here in Germany, in a place called the “Hohe Acht”, a windy place near the Nuerburg Ring, 800 metres above sea level, not far from where we live. / Eva

  • (The remains of this fallen “soldier” were splintered apart and the undulating grains were very appealing to me. I added some gradient colour just for a little interest.) “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” / This is a philosophical riddle that raises questions regarding observation and knowledge of reality. George Berkeley’s dictum was “to be, is to be perceived.“ / In an article in the Scientific American dating all the way back to Apr 5, 1884, they examined the question and came up with this answer: / “Sound is vibration, transmitted to our senses through the mechanism of the ear, and recognized as sound only at our nerve centers. The falling of the tree or any other disturbance will produce vibration of the air. If there be no ears to hear, there will be no sound.” / It follows then, that if you can’t see me, I’m not here. Hmmm. / PLEASE VIEW LARGE! /

  • The Tithe Barn was built in the early 14th century as part of the medieval farmstead belonging to Shaftesbury Abbey. Its function was to store the produce of the farm, and of the farms of the manor. Tenant farms contributed a tithe, meaning a tenth of their produce. King Ethelred gave the Manor of Bradford, including the monastery founded by St Aldhelm, to the Abbess of Shaftesbury in 1001. The barn is now owned and maintained by English Heritage.

  • These Boots Were Made For Walking / Timberland Boots. An artist / photographer can find inspiration from everyday objects all around him. If we look at light and colour, shape and form, utility and presence, we’ll not go far wrong. Open your eyes and you’ll see artisitic opportunities all around you. Photo Manipulation For this image, I took several shots of the boots at different exposures, HDR in Photomatrix Pro, then some layering work in Elements with two seperate textures of wood. The floor is my hallway andthe boots belong to Junior, my Son-in-law. Copied the original background layer, did a colour overlay, blurred, then some dodging and burning and eraser work to reveal more of the boots through the textures. That’s it, simples really:-) LOL.
