  • Waiting for the graduating class to begin their processional into the seating area. Taken May 16, 2009 at Mills College in Oakland, CA. The area of Californa (Bay Area) is generally cool. Although the temperature in the days leading up to graduation were in the mid 60’s, graduation day was a very hot 87 degrees with no breeze. It was a very hot several hours but a very nice graduation and a beautiful campus. Direct from my Nikon Coolpix P90.

  • This weekend, May 29, 2009, our youngest, / Tyler will graduate from academy/high school. Today he called me on my cell to let me know / he had picked up his cap and gown… / He said something else, but I don’t remember… / my eyes watered, my heart swelled, / And even though I have been through this experience / with my 2 daughters, the moment is not less-it is not routine. My emotions are just as uncontrollable as they / were for Carissa and Lise. / As I see not only my youngest, but my son in this / passage of graduation, I feel like I have learned more / from my children then they from me. I have learned more patience then I knew even existed! / I have experienced an undying, unflinching, unquestionable, / growing love that has carried me through the deepest and / darkest moments parents sometimes go to. / I have felt the strength and hope from my children that / erases all doubt and gives me all reason to never give up. I have learned to step aside and allow them to rise / out of their own efforts, or fall from their own choices, / and I have learned to be there for both. As I slip into this middle aged motherhood, / less becomes more takes on another meaning… / as I watch them become more responsible, / more outspoken and opinionated on life issues and / I become less anxious for them to know my opinion. So as I iron this gown I will be not be in a hurry and / I will remember this moment forever. Congratulations Tyler Gunnar Gustavsen, class of 2009. (our youngest Tyler (right), and nephew Mark (left).
