Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.

The Reaper by Paul Rees-Jones This is about the Reaper family, / A serious bunch, never too silly. Well, in truth, it’s about one, / One who reaps with a bit of fun. The youngest in the Reaper clan, / Quite a smart, little dead man. He brought a group of playful kids, / To the yard, oh yes he did. And why, you ask, would he save? / Just release them from their graves? When you are a Reaper Grim, / The days are long and awful dim. But to this small little reaper, / Loneliness ran a little deeper. So he made his friendly ghouls, / By breaking about 20 rules. He was given a body with all of the parts, / And was given an oversized heart. From the moment he saw her , she was his deliverence, / That dead Lil Zombie, the cute and lovely Temperance. He swooned and swayed, thought he’d pop a stitch, / Whenever around her, his voice lost it’s pitch. He planned and tried so often to say, / The words in his heart every day. Now if he knew how Temperance felt for him, / He wouldn’t have worry, nor feel so grim. Cause when she looked at him with her good eye, / Inside her cold heart was a loving sweet sigh. So there they are these sweet Lil dears, / All thats stopping their love is their silly fears.
