Looking down the gorge from the lower bridge, Falls of Bruar . I’m particularly impressed by the colours and the smooth glistening rocks. This area is rich in geology (an extension of the Loch Tay fault?): there’s a lot of limestone and other metamorphic sedimentary rocks (layered slate, possibly some schist) and a bit of red sandstone nearby, all folded making rakish angles. Taken on the Shen Hao 5×4” large-format camera with Fuji Velvia (old RVP emulsion) film.

Cobbold Gorge is in far north Queensland, Australia

Across the top end of my country and on into its heartland the earth has been fractured and torn by immense forces we cannot understand. Some of these scars of violence are now massive gorge systems, filled with waterfalls, rivers and sometimes a lonely, isolated rockhole. / Life flourishes in such places, little Edens surviving in a landscape so hostile to man that it seems like the surface of another planet. / But it is my planet / My country / My heart 60×60 cm / Acrylic, charcoal and inks on stretched canvas / Original is with a very good home :)

This shot was taken under a full moon at the top of Watamolla Gorge in Royal National Park, just south of Sydney Australia. You can see the cascade in the bottom left corner and the glow in the sky is from a neighbouring town. The sandstone in this gorge is amazing and varies from orange to bright red depending on whether its lit by the moon or sunlight. From here the water cascades in a series of waterfalls to a beautiful pool at the bottom. Unfortunately the falls face south and the moon is always in the north so I can’t get them lit by moonlight. They are the same falls as in Sunset Cascade taken from virtually the same position but facing south instead of north. This is one of my all time favourite places – night or day it’s magic. I was so excited about the colors and light I had captured in this shot. The split neutral density filters, neutral density filter, and polarizer really helped intensify the sunset/light against the rock while allowing me to capture a longer exposure of the waterfall. To get there, we had to hike to the bottom of the gorge and find some small unmarked pathways to the outskirt of the falls area. After, I climbed across several of the white rocks you see and set my tripod up in the middle of the stream and propped up against some nearby rocks. It’s always fun getting wet and right in the middle of a landscape to capture a photo :) / Little editing done (sharpening, haze removal, etc). Smith Rock, Oregon.

Best View Larger Feature in Live and Let Live group. Taken at Watkins Glen State Park, Watkins Glen, NY on 10/10/2009. I was with Lina Paul and Dj We where there because Dj has a week off before he goes for basic training for the Army Reserves. The park was really crowded and it was difficult to capture the waterfalls without anyone in them. I will catch up with replys and reviews later on today.
