Goosenecks of the San Juan – Utah. / Cropped. Saturation. Exposure. Another treacherous shot. I forgot my tripod for this beautiful sunset went running back to get it, tripped and landed on some extremely sharp rocks. I still have some pretty decent scars from the gash I had. I just took off my shirt wrapped the hand, shot the sunset and then went back to camp for some first aid and a famous breakfast style dinner, and I tell you after a sunset like this and a dinner like that – I forgot all about my hand. Goosenecks State Park, Utah, lies on the north side of the San Juan River, which forms the northern boundary of the Navajo Indian Reservation. / This view looks south, across the San Juan to the north shore of the reservation, and then on southwards to many of the monoliths which make up the scenery of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.

Just north of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, in southeastern Utah, is a small, but very spectacular state park, Goosenecks SP. Many visitors to Monument Valley pass by this site without realizing that what they are missing is as spectacular, if not more so, than Monument Valley itself. Here the San Juan River cuts a series of deep canyons or Goosenecks, while on its way to join the Colorado River, itself on the doorstep of entering the Grand Canyon.
