Digital Imagery – manipulated and overpainted by mouse. (sorry guys, I just needed a wildlife image for a catalogue) Lots of comments on this; strange that I should have considered it a “throw-away” image. Mainly because there was too much motion blur for it’s original purpose. For all those that mentioned the reflection – there was a reflection in the photo, but it was enhanced in Photoshop with the “Reflection” filter from Andomeda. A feeding flock of Snow Geese takes flight after being scared from the cornfield at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. Often it’s a coyote that spooks them or other predators. While not equal in flock size to the morning fly out, these “fright flights” are an impressive spectacle in and of themselves.

These ducks were swimmimg on a lake in Fountain, Colorado. There are marshlands there with all kinds of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals.

Captured on an early morning at Denver’s historic Washington Park. Standing here taking in the scene, was just amazing, sheer serenity….so utterly quiet I didn’t even hear the Goose swimming by. Amazing that in such a large city, nature thrives, never knowing that this peace is surrounded by so many people. Tens of thousands of Snow Geese winter at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. It’s quite a sight to see well over 10,000 birds all take flight at the same moment!

When I was living in Nebraska about the only thing that made me happy was walking to the tiny town lake (I called it a pond but it was called the city lake) and sitting near the water photographing the birds. This goose came and sat at my feet for over an hour. I did not have any food with me so it was not baited to get this photograph.

The Red-breasted Goose breeds in arctic Europe, often close to nests of large birds of prey, This helps to protect this small goose from predators such as the Arctic Fox. It is a rare vagrant to Great Britain and other western European areas, where odd birds are sometimes found with Brent flocks.
