The Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that travels under the Captain Cook Bridge. That is the subject of this image to a certain degree, but it was also an experiment in manual exposure. This is a tone mapped high dynamic range panorama consisting of one row of 14 images. Each image consists of five exposures of 2, 5, 10, 45 and 70 seconds.

In response to blamo’s (Tone) lighting a single red candle at midnight for Peace, this is my contribution… In 1863, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote these words: I heard the bells on Christmas Day / Their old familiar carols play / And mild and sweet the words repeat, / Of peace on earth, good will to men. I thought how as the day had come, / The bellfries of all Christendom / Had roll’d along th’ unbroken song / Of peace on earth, good will to men. And in despair I bow’d my head: / “There is no peace on earth”, I said, / “For hate is strong, and mocks the song / Of peace on earth, good will to men.” Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: / “God is not dead, nor doth he sleep; / The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, / With peace on earth, good will to men.” ‘Til ringing, singing on its way, / The world revolved from night to day, / A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, / Of peace on earth, good will to men! Peace on Earth is a 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon short subject directed by Hugh Harman, about a post-apocalyptic world populated by animals. Because Easter is approaching I thought it appropriate :) The child’s sustenance, or umbilical cord if you like is coming from a tree, symbolic of the healing that nature can bring….the new life and growth that comes with nurture both of spirit and of nature. Humility is understanding our rightful place in the scheme of all things, including nature, family structure and the wider community…... a world where there is tolerance for all, is the one i pray for
