  • God Beam
    by Christophe Testi

    US$7.18–US$191.52

Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. / In the same series: / / /

And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13. I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; / God’s Promise to Noah, after The Great Flood !! This truly was one of those “Magic of the Moment” times from God, a Divine Appointment, being in the right place at the right time, with no added special effects, all natural light !!!! The Covenant / Author: martin steinbrugger Having once beheld His glory shinning down from above… / My drought stricken life is now as a reservoir, / Constantly being renewed with God’s love. There’s only a remnant here and there of my barren past… / For behold God’s promise to heal and renew, / Is most certainly coming too pass. Water of life overflowing my soul… / Bringing forth the blessing and joy of knowing, / It is not I, but God who is in control. Covenant blessing under His bow shall I kneel… / For it is by His stripes and His stripes alone, / That my wounded soul has been healed. Inspired by Phil Thomson’s photo “The Covenant”

A tongue-in-cheek depiction of the Egyptian sky god, Horus, in full fury. / Original was completed 2007, in watercolor and gouache media, on Arches cold-press 180lb. paper.

  • This is my version of a sign of the times. How we put our faith and hope into false symbols. An enlightened awakening of our narcissistic quest for personal gratification. It’s about good and bad, right and wrong and how it all means nothing in the end. My god what am I talking about?

  • In God we Trust
    by Kate O'Brien

    US$4.56–US$121.60

Background to the Work I shot this piece on June 25th, long before I knew about the competition. I entered it because a couple of people on Red Bubble suggested I do so. I didn’t think or know it would win, I just entered on a whim, thinking I had nothing to lose and everything to gain if I did happen to win. I didn’t expect to because I know the quality of much of the work around here is so high. Charlie, one of the models I regularly work with was coming up for a shoot and we’d never done anything especially edgy despite the fact that she has a very striking and distinct look. I knew visually that her red lips and red nails with the spiky black hair would create a great visual impact against the strong design of the American flag. My initial idea when I bought the 3 US naval shirts and forage caps was to get three girls, similarly dressed with the rosaries and red lips and make an image I intended on entitling, “God’s Army”. I haven’t gotten around to it, because it is not only difficult to find three girls who look similar enough to carry it off, but even when I do find them, aligning everyones schedules aways seems to be a massive headache. What Inspired it I have to be honest, I’m not a fan of the current American government. I think the war in Iraq was pointless and a mistake, the lives taken on both sides (of the Iraqi people and the US military) is heartbreaking. Despite having a Christian upbringing, I cannot abide the way America’s right wing often equates being in power with political and religious absolutism, not unlike the Divine Right of Kings which is existed in the middle ages. I don’t believe there is any place for religion in politics, the Bible seems to back this up when it says, “Render Caesars things to Caesar and God’s things to God”. I take that to mean these things should be kept separate from each other. The Bible also says, Thou Shalt not Murder and yet right back to the Crusades through to the present, people have always found justification to kill in God’s name. So essentially, the work is a comment on the right wing governments who believe that God directs their decision making, specifically the decision to go to another country and destroy the lives of the people living there, who have different religious beliefs and ideals and plenty of the magical black gold that keeps America (and the rest of the world) running….and thereby steamrolling anyone who stands in their path/giving anyone who disagrees a loud and clear F—K YOU!. How anyone figured I meant she was giving God the bird I will never figure out. What I like about the work I really like the way the colours are reminiscent of 16mm film from the 60’s, a time of great upheaval in American political history. It has a feeling of Zapruder about it. With relation to the concept, I like the way Charlie (the model) is somewhat tarted up with lipstick and the glossy reflection of the sunglasses (which also make her appear cold and anonymous) yet, the flag is dirty and faded looking which is to my mind what has happened to America’s image over the last 8 years or so. One last note I am a huge fan of America, love lots of things about America and am more tolerant about America than most people I know. I’ve never visited but everyone else in my family has. The only reason I haven’t is because of my inability to save enough to get over there…it’s top of the list on places I’d like to visit. My brother-in-law who I get on very well with was born and raised in America and we have many conversations about where he can find American food products so he feels more at home here in Australia (although he has developed a taste for vegemite, so perhaps he really has crossed over to the dark side!). I am disgusted by the un-Christian way some of the apparent Christians on RedBubble have treated me regarding this image. There has been no Christ-like tolerance or compassion shown, rather a knee-jerk reaction which has made me feel depressed, miserable and certainly embarassed by all the attention.

  • Healed
    by StacyLee

    US$4.70–US$125.40

O LORD my God, I called to you for help / and you healed me. Psalm 30:2 (Digital Mixed Media)

  • Every now and then I like to “step outside” my boundary of usual subject matter and do something really different. This is one of those images. Captured outside the town of Central City, Colorado, I happened by this scene by luck, along with the other 2 cemeteries close by it. Long closed, these are the real deal “wild west’ cemeteries, long forgotten, long not seen. Looking like a scene out of the movie “Pale Rider”.....I had to photograph it. The ruts in the ground were still visible from where the old wagons used to carry the bodies up from the town. Quite an amazing place…. / Thoughts welcomed! —-John —-—-—-—-—-—-— / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Intercessory Prayer
    by Ruth Palmer

    US$4.13–US$110.20

Taken from my blog: I was going through some paintings in my studio and stumbled upon this one that I had done some time ago. I had initially put it aside calling it a “WIP” and had fully intended to go back and do more work on it but never did. I’d shown it as a WIP to some arteeeest friends who had liked it very much “as is” and then just rolled it up and forgot about it. It’s huge…not exactly sure off hand how large but it’s on unstretched canvas….I’d say about 4ft X 5ft. What this piece represents is (and I remember painting it during one of those dry spiritual periods when I was trying desperately to pray but just couldn’t find the words) our prayers, which are sometimes nothing more than moans and groans….but are interpreted for us by the Holy Spirit giving us a direct and uninterrupted line to our Father. This happens often during our times of spiritual emptiness when we are reaching out to God and the words just don’t come. For those of you who are Christians, you will know this scripture from the Bible: Romans 8:26 (New International Version) “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Anyway, when I pulled the painting out this morning, I decided that just as Jesus said on the cross, “it is finished”.....and would like to share it with you all. Never stop talking to God, He always hears….even the moans and groans! Be Blessed. /

It still engages me now. Look at his eyes. What is he thinking? He’s aching. He is full on aching. • Loss
    by WanderingSoulArt

    US$5.70–US$47.50

The Loss describes the fact that we all lost something, then we feel so lonely. It can be something or someone that made of us what we are, that made that we felt alive. / But finally all those events that hurt us so much built us, make us stronger and give us something in addition, something that will make us special! We only notice that (for those who notice it) a very long time later… In this creation this loss is reprensentated by the snail’s cockle, like if before she was in it, this was on her back, just like when a snail leave it. / But look at her back, ya see what she got in return? Wings. / The tree branches on her head symbolize her thoughts, so deeply rooted in her mind that she cannot see the good days and hope that are coming to her! This represents our blocked thoughts, when we feel so bad that we cannot help from having dark and depressive thoughts. / She also has elvish ears, the magicks she cannot see yet! So this creation is for those who actually feel bad, who have felt bad, who will feel bad. NEW – 2008 Calendar is available HERE My gallery is Copyright © Wandering Soul.
