Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. MAY 12, 1988: ON TOP OF MOUNT VACA LOOKING OVER THE TOWN OF VACAVILLE CALIFORNIA AND SACRAMENTO VALLEY TOWARDS RIO VISTA. THE LIGHTNING STORM STARTED IN THE SIERRAS AND TRAVELED ACROSS THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CASCADE MOUNTAINS TO THE NAPA VALLEY. ABOUT 20 SECONDS AFTER LEAVING MY PARKING SPOT, WHERE I TOOK THIS PHOTO FROM, DAYLIGHT HAPPENED. THE LIGHTNING STRIKE WAS SO INTENSE, THAT MY FRIEND WHO WAS WITH ME AND JUST HAPPENED TO BE BLIND, SAID HE WAS ABLE TO SEE SOME OF THE LIGHT IN WHAT LITTLE VISSION HE HAD. AND BELIEVE ME, HE COULDN’T SEE THAT MUCH. THIS PHOTO MAKES A GREAT 20X30 TO HANG ON THE WALL, MAYBE OVER A FIREPLACE MANTLE. / LIGHTNING STRIKES LIKE THESE HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE OVER 10,000 DEGREES IN TEMPERATURE AT THE CORE OF THE STRIKE, WHICH MIGHT ONLY BE ONE INCH IN DIAMETER. THIS SHOT WAS A MULTIPLE EXPOSURE SHOT OF 4 EXPOSURES OF 20 SECONDS EACH WITH A CABLE SHUTTER RELEASE ON A TRIPOD. THE CAMERA WAS A CANON EOS 620 WITH THE SHUTTER SET ON THE B SETTING AND THE F STOP WAS SET AT FF:22, SO I WOULDN’T OVER EXPOSE THE CITY LIGHTS. TO GIVE THIS IMAGE SOME SORT OF SCALE, THE TWO RED LIGHT TOWERS THAT ARE JUST TO RIGHT OF CENTER, THE SHORT ONE IS 1600 FEET TALL AND THE TALLEST ONE IS 2000 FEET TALL. I WAS ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN THAT IS 2800 FEET IN ALTITUDE. THOSE TWO TOWERS ARE APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING.

Untouched and a total accident,a macro shot of snow that fell down the roof last winter.I hope I’m not the only one who sees a part of a face in the clouds… :))...better view larger So close,so far… / It felt like eternity… / I walked …and walked / lost in a paradise of ice Hopelessly crying,hoping / to be delivered from that immensity. / I reached to the top of that icy pic / and saw a small refuge. For an euphoric instant / I saw His Face in the clouds / The Keeper of my souvenirs / I knew ,then / The reason of my wanderring… Gigi / / My first poem in english and first experience for me.This situation happened to me two days ago,I’ve got lost in the woods for 4 hours,walking and walking,desperate to find a saving light.It was so dark,even Tchoko was worried,chasing imaginary animals….then I saw thousands of stars all arround me,it was fireflies….it was like being part of the universe…nothing else but fireflies…then I realised I was out of the woods.I met 6 persons and asked for help,one of them let me do a phone call but Michel was working late and wasn’t there.I have to say that I hated humanbeings that night and I cried of rage instead of fear.I finaly saw a police car on the road and went back to where I was parked.It was midnight.Tchoko and I slept all day after,tired but happy to be home. / ...A true story ..thanks for reading…x / / PS. I wanted to do the sunset on the top of a mountain,the same place I took «Together at last»but I forgot the time shooting mushrooms…. :)))..it’s all me. / /
