This old Louisiana oak was inspired by those that grow in Natchitoches Parish on the old plantations. This one has the resurrection fern, which looks dead in dry weather, but springs to lush life after a rain. I painted this piece in oil on 14×11 stretched canvas.

I love the was nature reuses man’s creation and this old store and sheep shelter is now being used by the tree as support and shelter from strong winds.

I had this canvas forever, it was a pumpkin started over a woman standing by a tree, Four years it sat around never making it past an hour or so of work. Then I broke it out last week late one night. I finely found what this canvas wanted to be. 12”x12” oil on canvas

These trees just fascinate me with their twists and turns! If this tree was a person, it would have horrible arthritis! The shapes, contrasts and colors always stop and make me pause. If you notice to the left of the major tree trunk, you will see a shape that looks much like a bird. It’s pretty fitting for a State Park that is loaded with birds of many species! This photograph was taken at Lake Folsom State Park, California with a Canon 40D.
