  • High on windswept ridges in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in eastern California’s White Mountains live the planet’s oldest known living organisms – the ancient Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva). Some of these trees were already growing when the Egyptians built the pyramids over 4000 years ago. The oldest known Bristlecone Pine is “Methuselah”. This gnarled and twisted tree is about 4,800 years old – and still able to reproduce. But only a few bristlecones have been able to grow to such incredibly old ages, survived ultraviolet rays, extreme cold, wind, and aridity in this harsh environment between the Eastern Sierra Nevada and Death Valley in an elevation between 10,000 and 11,000 feet (3,048 and 3,354 meters) above sea level. These old trees, the oldest living things on earth, 2800 years older than Christ, are now strictly protected by law and guarded carefully. “Thank you for being a friend” Card / Laminated Print / Please note: RedBubble automatically re-sharpens and adds contrast to uploaded images for web display. That’s why some originally properly exposed, sharp thumbnails and large previews appear too harsh and too sharp. / Printed Photographs are properly exposed and sharpened!

  • I was obscured by sea scrub bushes as he lumbered along the sandy path with difficulty; his knees stiff with arthritis, his knobbly hands clasped behind his back. He reminded me of an old tree full of whorls and gnarls and knots in the wood. I wondered fleetingly of his love for the ocean that made him hobble and drag himself across the sand towards the silvery lace of the sea. As he passed by unaware of my presence, he said in rusty tones, ‘Well love, looks like we’ve got the beach to ourselves today.’ Iwatched him walk to the water and put his feet in, imagining the salty comfort of his toes. I wondered what he missed the most: the smell of love on his skin, in his clothes and hair, or the feel of love beside him in his bed, or love’s face waiting for him at the end of each day that made all the days of rubies or coal worth it, or the way life felt measured by the love’s grace. I wondered if he missed the sound of love humming their favourite song in the next room. His hands of wood and knots stayed clasped behind his back. I bet he was a hand-holder, I thought, my eyes stinging. I bet he can still hear music in the next room.

  • Legend has it in the ‘Land Dahn Undah’, that if you’re unlucky enough to not be down your local watering hole and find ya’self at home with the significant udda’ and kids you might hear a knock on your door… You open it only to find a group of carol singers standing there…. But these are no ordinary Carol SIngers – These are Gnarlsupial Carol Singers…. Gneretically modified carol singers (or just a regular bunch of Bruces and Sheilas on the way back from said watering hole) that are looking for a bit of extra change to get a few tinnies in for the christmas. It is thought a pretty bad idea to shut the door in their faces though – They aint called Gnarlsupials for nothing you know…. as deep in them pouches they have little replica size bruces and sheilas with ninja skills that fy out and slap you one before the idea of closing the door even registered… So if you are indeed dahn under – go to the local or don’t open the doot to anyone…. and merry Christmas to you all… If you’re ‘topside’ Merry Christmas to you all in any case….! :) - That little piece of Australian Folklore was brought to you by Vectorial Bitter Sponsored by Zoomagnum Inc….

  • I spotted this old tree on the side of a small cliff in beside some limestone outcrops. It is bent all out of shape and it looks like the wind coming off the ocean had something to do with it as well!.
