  • This shot was taken on Squeaky Beach at Wilsons Promontory on what I considered to be a fairly flat sunset. I had tried a few other shots on the rock platforms at the other end of the beach with limited results and as it was now getting very dark I was on my way back to the car. There was a limited orange glow on the horizon which wasn’t particularly arresting but from previous experience I thought the camera might ‘see’ the scene better than the naked eye. Large area’s of black silhouette in a frame I generally don’t like so I tried to balance that with the sea and sky with a fairly long zoom. The exposure was thirty seconds long, flattening the waves and intensifying the light and colours (velvia helps too). The end result was my favourite shot of the trip.
