A well-used footbridge that crosses over a tidal river at the end of Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
This is one of those right time/right place shots. I had been photographing these egrets for at least an hour when something apparently spooked them. They spread their wings and began running, as if they were preparing to take off, only to setttle down seconds later. If I didn’t have my camera up to my face with my finger resting on the shutter button, I would have missed the shot. Taken at Rocky Neck Harbor in Gloucester, MA
This is one of several sunrise/early morning photos I have of Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The footbridge is the same footbridge that is featured in my “Crossing the Bridge” photo. There are two islands in this photo. You can actually walk to the closer one, Salt Island, at low tide without getting your feet wet, because of a sand bar that spans from the far end of the beach to the island. The second island in the far background, directly behind the reflection of the sun, is Thatcher Island. There are two lighthouses on Thatcher Island, one at each end,, but only the lighthouse on the right is operational. Thatcher Island is one of the landmarks that waas mentioned by George Clooney in his portrayal of Gloucester fishing boat Captain Billy Tyne in the movie “The Perfect Storm”
On rare occasions the lighting falls so that cloister lights up, I have been trying to catch it for a few years now and this is the first time the light fell right for me. / All the colours are there and that red door just lift the image.

Gloucester is the home to Britain’s most Inland Port, whose outstanding Victorian Warehouses are stars in numerous period films and television dramas. In its heyday the Gloucester Docks formed the gateway for waterborne traffic into the Midlands, when tall ships and barges queued for miles along the Gloucester and Sharpness canal. shot with an nd 400 using a 400d and cleaned up in cs3

On a recent trip to Gloucester in NSW Australia I was determined to capture the sun as it set on this rather cold winter’s day. The sky had been playing games all day … blue sky interwoven with wonderful formations of cloud … fluffy cotton wool balls, streaks of white against the blue, then a crescendo of cumulus billowing cloud, sweeping before changing to pink … to gold … to crimson … before the finale of blood red. I took many images this day but somehow this simple, last whimper of cloud, backdropped against the silhouette of the gap in the Bucketts stole the show, quenching my thirst of what had been .. of what I had seen!! /

“When the sun in the morning peaks over the hill and surveys all the kingdon while everything’s still” .... / and so the song goes – so appropriate this dawn morning in Gloucester NSW Australia. We waited patiently for the sun to rise and light up the Bucketts, the range of mountains that dominate the landscape in this area. It arrived first with its blood red blotches of cloud, then quickly washed the small valley with this magic glow … then it was gone and pure sunlight filled the area.
Stumbled upon this lovely little stream….......Hope you like it. / Probably best viewed LARGE / FujiFinepix /
