MARION CHAMPMAN is a wonderful artist and a lover of patterns and design.. Printmaking and experimenting with all kinds of materials and colors.. she really turns my head.. Marion… truth be told.. Kauai is not a very pastel-y place.. so I took my photo and gave it a Marion Wash.. I love this shot..I do not know what this is but I spent some time with this guy..It was a very tall tree and that is how the leaves grow on it.. no branches!! Marion’s Chapman’s Pastels inspired Maddy of Smudge ARt Fame to write a most lovely lovely piece.. My gratitude for the Love here is ever growing.. Thank YOu Maddy! What beauty is this I behold ? / “A feast to ones eye”, I am told. / Leaves wrapped in soft hues. / Colors of gold, red and spiritual blues. “A tree without branches ”, she did say. / Just leaves that enfold it in every way. / Lina sad, this tree amazed me so, / I could not look at it and just let it go. It inspired me until I returned home, / In my minds eye, this is the tone. / I know Creator left this for me to do, / So I painted it gold, red and spiritual blue.

I shot this with my Rebel XT in raw in late afternoon light. Used Corel Painter Essentials 4 and a Wacom Bamboo tablet to create an oil painted look. In Corel I used thick oil, captured bristle, tapered camel brushes and also worked over it with soft cloner and bristle brush cloner to bring a touch of the original photo back where I wanted a bit more detail. Once again my beautiful daughter, Jessica, for the model.

With all the bazillions of sunset images.. I still find myself trying to capture the beauty of each new one I see. To me they are romantic, calming and one of natures finest works of art. This one I took in Mexico somewhere along the west coast. Pulled off the road and sat awhile to admire & dream as the sun melted into the sea. Nikon D60 55/200 / Mexico 2009
One of several music-themed pieces I’ve been working on for the past few days. This is a digital piece using my 1922 sheet music, my photo of a piano and the silhouette came from Wikipedia Commons. I altered and enhanced the original silhouette digitally for this piece. Music has always been a big part of my life, so I thought it was time to bring some of my musical influences into my art work.
