January 2006. I was really interested in night photography back then. My tripod and I were buddies. Mmmm, long exposure. I need to buy a new tripod; mine broke because of the 30-below-0 weather. The joint where the three spokes meet snapped right in half. Oh no! I’ve been too poor to buy a new one.

The Rest and be thankful is the summit of the road between Loch Long and Long Fyne in Argyll, Scotland. The col has been a resting place for travellers for many years, and was referred to by Samuel Johnson during his travels with James Boswell (though Johnson and Scotland didn’t care for each other). Nowadays, travellers tend to stop in the car park to have a bacon butty and enjoy the view, rather than rest their legs. This photo was taken a little way down the road towards Arrochar, where a set of traffic lights were imposing single-file traffic due to a landslip earlier in the year. It was a bit of a quick snap (or three for the HDR) while I was stopped in the queue as the lights were changing (as you can see on the left). I usually drive along was held

Most days it’s quite dull here with heavy clouds all day long this time of year. But then sometimes the light bursts through during short periods, casting an interesting light on the ground. This was taken on December 6th around noon from my favourite beach on the Baltic island of Bornholm. / / /

A friend of mine on a geography fieldtrip we took to Boscastle. Well used to my odd ways, he obligingly sat down and got ready for a long wait when I yelled “Stay there, and don’t move!” at him. I quite like this one It was an absolutely stunning bit of coastline, and well worth a visit.
