Damn Gladys… You Fly Girrrl!
There is a lady I knew who was the strongest woman I had ever met…not only physically but emotionally as well. She wrecked buildings for a living with her husband, son and some hired men. She cooked for a large amount of people regularly. She watched two children, a husband and grandson die. She always had a welcome mat out, a hug and a cup of coffee for anyone who came to her door. I could say more about this amazing woman but there is not enough room…..She passed away one year ago…I was with her until her last breath…...I miss her often and was proud to be considered her daughter and friend. / 24×24 Oil on canvas. / SOLD

Another T with the famous Gladys donkey, this time she brings the question that all women want to know. Too bad her sister Fanny never reached this level of stardom.

Placed in the top ten in DOLLS from around the world! “Dolls Of All Nationalities Challenge” on Aug. 30, 2009 Long ago there was a community called Gladie and this farm was part of it. The Appalachian dolls, gas light, crock and skillet are on display inside this old Kentucky home. / It was dark in the log cabin when the National Park guide unlocked the door for us, but when he lit the lamp, there they were just sitting there! So cute- she has a dimple and he has dirty overalls. I wanted the full ethnic impact of showing this pair in their true Appalachian setting. This “old” couple seemed to naturally suggest an anniversary (of some kind). / The log house was built between 1876 and 1884 in what is now the Red River Gorge geological area of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. This interpretive site on the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway is a joint effort of The Red River Historical Society, U.S. Forest Service and Ron Black Assoc. / (200 views) /
