One of the most beautiful places i have been on our little planet Earth. The tragedy is that this beautiful photo would not be possible without global warming. When in a cafe at a petrol station i saw a postcard of Jokulsarlon. One single large iceberg floating in the centre. As you can see now the lake is full. Note: The size if this work was increased using Photoshop CS2. / Best size being around the 50cm wide.

This berg was as big as a house! We were bobbing around in a little lifeboat so we could be close to these and get some photos. Our main ship, the Skorpios III, although happy to plough through ice flows would not venture closer than 1 kilometre to the glacier face. The glacier in the background is the Pope Pio XI, the largest glacier (I think) in South America. Southern Patagonia, Chile.

We aren’t afraid of it. In fact, to us it is more powerful than words. Our elders were schooled in the ways of silence, and they passed that along to us. Watch, listen, and then act, they told us. This is the way to live. Watch the animals to see how they care for their young. Watch the elders to see how they behave. Watch the white man to see what he wants. Always watch first, with a still heart and mind, then you will learn. When you have watched enough, then you can act. With you it’s the opposite. You learn by talking. You reward the kids who talk the most in school. At your parties everyone is trying to talk. In your work you are always having meetings where everyone interrupts everyone else, and everyone talks five, ten, or a hundred times. You say it is ‘working out a problem’. When you are in a room and it is quiet you get nervous. You have to fill the space with sound. So you talk right away, before you even know what you are going to say. White people like to argue. They don’t even let each other finish sentences. They are always interrupting. To Indians this is very disrespectful and even very stupid. If you start talking, I’m not going to interrupt you. I will listen. Maybe I will stop listening if I don’t like what you are saying. But I won’t interrupt you. When you are done I will make my decision on what you said, but I won’t tell you if I disagree with you unless it is important. Otherwise I will just be quiet and go away. You have told me what I need to know. There is nothing more to say. But this isn’t enough for most white people. People should think of their words like seeds. They should plant them, then let them grow in silence. Background Information: / Peyto Lake is a glacier-fed lake located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway. It was named for Ebenezer William Peyto, an early trail guide and trapper in the Banff area. The lake is formed in a valley of the Waputik Range, between Caldron Peak, Peyto Peak and Mount Jimmy Simpson, at an elevation of 1,860 m (6,100 ft). During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway. The lake is fed by the Peyto Creek, which drains water from the Caldron Lake and Peyto Glacier (part of the Wapta Icefield), and flows into the Mistaya River. Peggy’s Cove is one of the most photographed locations in the world located in Nova Scotia, Canada. This tiny inlet boasts some spectacular scenery including huge glacial rocks, a tiny village of 40 inhabitants, and particularly the lighthouse. / The crashing Atlantic Ocean surf on these lovely rocks is fabulous.

Background Information: / This picture is taken near Athabasca Falls . Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park is just 23 metres high. However, it is not known for its height. Instead it is known for the force of the falling water due to the quantity of water flowing. Even on a cold morning in the fall, copious amounts of water flow over the falls. A layer of hard quartzite has allowed the falls to cut into the softer limestone below carving the short gorge and a number of potholes. White water rafting often starts below the falls to travel downstream on the Athabasca River to Jasper, Alberta. It is a class 5 waterfall, with a drop of 80 ft (24 m) and a width of 60 ft (18 m). The lake is typicaly glacial like you can see from the valey in formation of the “U” charachter. Photograph taken on a cold sunny morning of January on the lake of Bled Slovenija. One or maybe just the most rapresentable place of my country. It is a glacial lake with an alp island dominated by a little church on it. A place like from a fairly tale.. a place full of history from the far iron era to these days. The island was always a place for spirituality. The lake is dominated by a wanderful castle on the highest rock above the lake. (You can see it on the pic) . I can only say that if you are searching for a breathtaking location on the sunny side of alps which have all.. well the lake of Bled is for sure a splendid choice. This is a glacial lake called Jökulsár lón. Its a lagoon full of icebergs going to sea from the biggest Glacier in Europe. Its a beutifull place and it should be a place where everyone had to go to atleast once.
