shoujo is a term used in English to refer to manga and anime aimed at a young, female audience.The term is a transcription of the Japanese girl. The manga genre is stereotyped as melodramatic stories of romance usually with a female protagonist, and drawn in a flowing style where beautiful characters with huge, intricately drawn eyes.Manga genres:alternative known as Garo, Gekiga – dramatic pictures, La nouvelle manga from Franco-Belgian/Japanese artistic movement, semi-alternative manga with popular publication individualistic style, Magical girl, Robot or Mecha and giant robots, Moe also known as maho kanojo or magical girlfriend, Yuri or lesbian romance, Shonen-ai or gay romance and Hentai for pornography.

Travelling through Arizona I noticed so much desolation, abandoned structures, disconnected souls… which prompted me to stop and listen, I’m fascinated with connecting sound to the visual medium. / How do you visually capture the sound / of desolation…this is my attempt…. The transparency of the girl shows a dissociativeness with the landscape. / Is she there only in spirit? Not only until one is heard completely do they connect totally with their environment.

It’s all around us and I believe that each person has their own defined energy. Some try to overpower others by bringing them down by taking their energy away. It happens don’t you think? What do you think happens with people and energy. Is it a cycle? Can it be broken? Taken from you? Can you create new energy and change things that happen inyour life? Energy truly intrests me. I try hard not to get pulled into bad energy. It’s hard though. There is so much to talk about when it comes to each persons energy in the world. In this piece, I believe energy to be a pure and beautiful thing when its first created. I believe in a relaxing, happy and positive energy. As for what happens to it after is all up to the beholder! Watercolour on Waterford 356gsm painted with W/N watercolour paints. The photo of this painting belongs to wonderful photographer John Spies. / . This little Black Lahu girl caught my eye when I was paging through Johns’ work. It was the wonderfully powerful eye’s that drew me to paint her as well as John’s narrative regarding the story of these people. The light was also so wonderful. I would like to thank John for allowing me to paint her and hope I did it justice!
