The back layer was a pencil sketch i did and it also had the two figures on it, but i played with it and put the other out line drawing on top / xXxOoO I also have this image with out the border…so its up to you which one you prefer :o) This is this one on a card…. / And this is the borderless one…. /

‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D I think that the song Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole really relates to the story …. as his melancholy voice is so melodically accompanied by the ukelele….. it reminds me of the story of Iliki the young hawaiian girl, who leaves her island when still very young…. forever she haunted the mind of the young minister missionary who tended her and taught her in his first days on the island, he forever wondered how she was faring in the civilised world, having been taken away on a ship by the white men. He felt a certain special kind of fatherly love for this girl, and it tore his heart that she was so clever and cottoned on so well to the new english language, and customs he would teach her, as well as the scriptures…but she was a wild thing, and never one to be ‘pigeon-holed’ or contained… he set her free and never saw her again. Watercolor on watercolor board. Original available. / This painting has multiple interpretations, like many of my works. First level: I love fairy tales and myth, especially the Celtic fairie tradition. One topic seldom if ever portrayed in Celtic myth is pregnant fairie women. We read only about mythic beings having a fairie parent or being born in the land of the Sidhe. Always curious, I cant help but wonder if fairie babies concieved and carried within their mother like those of mortals and animals, or do they incubate in eggs like birds, fish and reptiles to name a few? Some say they’ve always been here, fallen angels awaiting the end of time. I prefer to think they are earth elementals, sentient beings of another, ancient dimension and not only exist but procreate and care for their young as we do. Sometimes the Fey take human babies and leave in their place changelings, but in my painting the gestating lifeform is pure fairie fire and light energy. Second Level: The creation and nurturing of new life is such a magical, mysterious act. Its sacred in all its forms, this painting speaks of honoring and caring for all life forms with compassion and respect whether that lifeform is mortal, animal, plant, or Earth herself. The imagery in the farie’s belly is organic, symbolizes the egg, the new life energy manifesting in this realm, and the baby’s connection to its mother as well as roots to past, present and future. Third Level: Tindering the life spark of seed and pod. A soul begins its journey when male and female energies unite. Tiny round egg meets sperm, and with tinder of nucleus and membrane, are kindled to life, creating new life energy – a new being. Pausing on occasion to tend the blossom glow within one’s own soul is reminiscent of this sacred process. When the heart flower bloats from too much moisture or shrivels from drought, ponder the collective, primal memory of a forgotten holy light. Ultimately the bedraggled bud will swell back to life, petals unfurling to reveal symmetry and color. Fourth Level: This is the individual’s intuitive response and the resulting interpretation, and comes from within yourself. ‘Inspirational Series’ card by Karin Taylor Nancy, Patsy, Ellen and Red Dog is a mixed media production. I used ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal on canvas textured paper. The original painting was just auctioned for charity recently. This work was also inspired by the _‘Legend of Red Dog aka The Pilbara Wanderer’, as is ‘Where is Red Dog’. Red Dog was an adventurous dog who seemed to belong to an entire community. / When his soulmate John died, Red Dog searched for him for the rest of his days, that’s loyalty for you! This painting depicts the time Red Dog’s search for John took him all the way from the dusty outback to Cottesloe Beach, with the girls from his hometown hot on his tail…... If you look closely you can see the tips of Red Dog’s ears way out past the breakers!

I think this is a juvenile female cardinal, judging from the color of the bill and from her childlike curiosity, hanging around the feeder longer than usual and looking around with intense interest and not a whole lot of nervousness as is evident in more mature birds. A beautiful trusting little girl!

I would describe it as having strong design aspects. Matryoshka on Hols was born from my passion for vintage wooden dolls…I thought how cute it would be to dress her in some holiday gear, especially since Russia is usually a very cold place from what I hear…it’s nice to give her a break in a nice warm sunny climate such as Australia :D and and I’ve taken the liberty of giving her a bit of gypsy flair! Maybe she’ll like Australia and decide to stay here? / Maybe she’ll like wearing this bikini and buy some more in different colours? / Maybe she’ll pop up again somewhere when you least expect it, in a vivid array of daring colours! / or…maybe she’ll go home to Russia and we’ll see her in some traditional dress sometime? That day was a special day in Jodhpur, India and many gypsies come over for a party, so i was the lucky one to shoot all these beautifull people. these girls where behind a little foodstall making themselves ready for the next dance..I never really watch the performances , I rather hang around the back and see what happens there..
