Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Flying Machine / by Karin Taylor / from the ‘Inspired Series’ / / Mixed Media / ink, chalk pastel, charcoal, acyrlic, mediums / silver, gold, bronze and rose metallic acrylics / adobe photoshop My most recent work, this piece was influenced by the ‘gliders’ in my family who have taken to the sky recently. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol I thought, there’s no way i can do that! / But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece. My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine / a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail. The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’ I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :) Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

*My work was featured in the group Video Montage / ( Thanks Muscular Teeth and Butchart ) Excerpt from “Abigail’s Friends” written by Anthony Hedger illustrated by Carrie Glenn. ...“I think we better go back now.” She whispered to the butterfly. / “Why?” The butterfly asked. “It’s only my friends and they are having a special tea party just for you, come on and I’ll introduce you to them.” / “Er, ok, if you think I’ll be alright?” / “Of course you’ll be alright.” The red fox called to her. “Come on your tea is getting cold.” / So for the next two hours Abigail sat with Mr. Fox, Mr. Bear, Miss Rabbit, Ms. Blue bird and a hundred different butterflies and had tea and cake and chatted as though she had known them all her life. / I used candlewax, few different sized black marker pens, retractable pencils, charcoal white and black, ink and pastels on a small piece of timber to create “Happiness Always”......and that’s what I wish for everyone…. happiness always it could be for a newborn baby, just cheer someone who’s a little sad, or for a birthday ~ wishing someone happiness always is just a nice thing to do any time of the year :)

/ framed print (walnut frame with off white matt) I used a lot of media in this painting….. / chalk pastels, faber castelle black markers, charcoal, aquarelle watercolour crayons wet and dry, acrylics….on Canson canvas textured paper A2 size / it has been tweaked in photoshop to add brightness and contrast, etc. It’s from a series i’ve been wanting to get a start on for over a year, so this is the first one in the “Mothers and Daughters series”....I’m not sure if i’ll do more or not yet…i hope to….just has to be when the inspiration comes though…. I worked on this til 4am this morning …. oops! I hope you like it anyway, there is a sombre mood about it I guess, but not necessarily dark or negative….tears are healing, they really are….....

/ Medium Size Print/Cherry Frame/Off White Matt Watercolour crayons, watercolour pencils, faber castell pencils, ink, acrylic, wax, gesso acrylic, chalk pastel, pen, charcoal on paper This began as a drawing while on holiday at an island resort, it’s one of those paintings that seemed to have a mind of it’s own, and wanted to be painted a certain way…even though I had different ideas, this is the end result. LOL I was originally going to colour her very gently with wax and soft pastels…but she became more and more vibrant as I went along. Perhaps the colouring says something of how vibrant we become when we are well rested, balanced and relaxed.

This started off as a sketch for my Wonderland artwork series (it was going to be Alice and the Caterpillar- but the caterpillar gradually morphed into this dragon and I felt like doing a primarily pen-and-ink work this time around. So Alice was put on the backburner for a little bit and instead we have a little girl and her dragon friend set against a silver sky with a blue moon. One only knows what they could be talking about….. Original artwork measures 12.5×19 inches approx. and is for sale (email redeye@designbyredeye.com to inquire). Sixth artwork in my new Wonderland series, based off of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” ”`Well!’ thought Alice to herself, `after such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs! How brave they’ll all think me at home! Why, I wouldn’t say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!’ (Which was very likely true.) – “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” Original artwork measures approx. 12.5×19” and was created with oil pastels, colored pencils, metaliic silver pens, and marker.
