A wierd contradiction happens in Africa. People are so very poor, the only clothes they can get are those given away by charity or sold for a pittance by second hand dealers. Such organisations or traders get their clothes ultimately from the charity bins you and I donate to. Therefore people living in abject poverty wear outfits with brand names emblazoned on them such as: Timberland, Nike or Ralph Lauren. The same names people in the west pay a lot for. Ironic? Yes. Amusing? Yes a little. I came across this beautiful young girl in the ruins of broken lava, homelessness and chaos. She was wearing a light blue dress and carrying a burberry hand bag. Classic. Sisters having fun at the local water fountain, so much that they couldn’t bear to leave for dinner when their mother called. This brings a smile to one’s face and reminds us of our childhood antics.

This was my 3 year old daughters first time playing in the rain. It was so amazing to watch her delight . I think we can all relate to tilting our faces up towards the the sky, trying to catch the rain as it falls on our cheeks. I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons. Sold 2 laminated prints to RB Members.

Even at two years old, Lucy knows how to go for the kill. Of course, it doesn’t look like her little brother minds too much either. In a few years, we’re going to have to start keeping an eye on these two. At least we know they love each other.

Oils on canvas (12×16 inches) What a delight to paint this beautiful child! I love painting so much and this little girl with her sweet and innocent beauty captured everything I would wish for children all over the world. I don’t know who she really is but I named her ‘Sarah’. So, for my little ‘Sarah’ and all the little ‘Sarahs’ all over the world: An Irish Prayer May God give you… / For every storm, a rainbow, / For every tear, a smile, / For every care, a promise, / And a blessing in each trial. / For every problem life sends, / A faithful friend to share, / For every sigh, a sweet song, / And an answer for each prayer. My thanks to Anna on SXU for her permission to use her photograph as reference for this painting. I put the candle in the painting because I wanted the soft light on the little girls face, glowing and warm.

This sweet flower girl portrait started with an image of my daughter and took several hours to complete. Several layers of florals and vines, in various transparencies, embossing effects and textures were added. I also did air brushing, oil brush work, and drew in all of the hair by hand. Title: Innocent Partner / Medium: Acrylic on stretched canvas / Size: 500mm x 600mm / 2nd Prize winner in the Dunedin International Airport Art Awards / Original SOLD This was a painting I recently finished. It was an art challenge held by the New Zealand Art Guild. Four things ha to be incorporated in an artwork, they were: / innocence, orange, umbrella and triangle. Here is Little Red Riding Hood (the innocent) although she doesn’t look it here…with the Big Bad Wolf who has offered her shelter under his umbrella as it has started to snow again. She is on her way to take some fruit (orange amongst them) to her elderly Grandma who lives in a cottage deep in the forest. I wanted to interpret ‘triangle’ in the three character relationship i.e. Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandma and the Big Bad Wolf. Alternatively sections of the umbrella are triangular in shape.
