  • Taken at about 4pm (almost 5hrs before sunset!!) on December 14 south of Heyfield in central Gippsland during the most devastating afternoon of the seasons bushfires. This is an actual representation of the original transperancy – the entire sky was so full of colour that everything became ‘painted’ with rich orange light. more of my bushfire photography can be seen at / Fires

  • MARLO VICTORIA

  • I had deliberated over uploading this photograph for sometime..I don’t expect it to ‘go well’ – But just like to add it to the series for some balance. / / Five weeks after the devastating Gippsland bushfires passed through this particular area (still burning on a large scale to the north and east) A surface trough brought some welcome rain and thunderstorms on the ranges. It was not too long after this that the sheer brilliance of the Australian ‘bush’ came to life…Here in this rainforest gully I had been unsure to it’s ability to recovery. Perhaps the fire’s intensity at this point was not as ‘hot’ as other areas. What ever the reasoning my repeat visits to this gully over the ensuing months saw the most wonderful transition. / / / / Canon EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / see more of my bushfire related photography by clicking on the preview image below / /

  • A shard of golden light finds it way through the clouds and hills to brilliantly illuminate the rustic framework of the historic trestle bridge. • The iron skeleton is all that remains on the Trinculo – an iron sailing barque which was driven ashore by gale in 1879. Immediately next to Trinculo, the sand is covering the remains of another vessel – the PS Paynesville. Along the Ninety Mile Beach at the costline of East Gippsland, Victoria, Golden Beach near Seaspray.

  • Today, I was in South Gippsland again..an area of Victoria I love. The last time I went..prior to summer, it was green and lush ..indeed, these hills are (usually aptly) named, the Emerald Hills. / A scorching summer, with virtually no rain has left the region dry, scorched, and a tremendous fire risk, with Wilsons Promotory already blazing

  • Inverloch, early morning pier shot.

  • Heading down a track in the old Glenmaggie township, now living under Lake Glenmaggie. Shot with a Nikon D200, 18-35mm lens, 18mm, 1/1.3 secs, F/22, 100 ISO, .9 ND grad filter, hand held.

  • ...With the sound of Lawrence Norton amusing himself by yelling out all sounds of strange noises and listening to the incredible echoes. This was shot somewhere up in the hills between Glenmaggie and Licola in Victoria. To get this beauty of a view Lawrence Norton and I jumped in our 4WDs and headed up a goat track called Burgoyne’s Gap, which was fun… Parts of the track are so steep you couldn’t walk them! To get to this spot from the track though involved forcing our way through thick bush to a little rocky clearing on the side of the slope, barely big enough for 3 of us (Lawrence, myself and my better half, Jenna) to sit our tripods. A little bit of tree manipulation was called for to clear the view slightly (no trees were harmed in this exercise). Shot with a Nikon D200, 28-70mm lens at 70mm, F/16, 100 ISO, tripod, cable release. 7 shot HDR, merged and mapped in Photomatix, touched up in Photoshop. BEST VIEWED LARGER Also from this shoot:
