Whale watching in Long Beach….I had so much fun watching these beautiful creatures. I don’t think my camera ever left my eye, I was so worried that I would miss a wonderful moment! Nikon D80 / Lens 50-200mm

Boxers are handsome dogs with a lovely personality and a good sense of humor. They are all that is good in a dog: good-natured, playful, loyal, confident – and a shoulder to cry on. They are quite goofy, the clown among dogs, always active, love kids, cats, and other dogs, and their facial expressions are priceless. They are great guard dogs and will step up against anyone who intends to do harm to their family or property and subdue the individual without going overboard. A Boxer requires lots of exercise and attention and will definitely keep you on your toes. If a Boxer’s owner does not have the time or energy to tire the dog out every day, this ‘70 lb toddler’ will find something to do on it’s own that you probably really won’t like! / But as roudy as a Boxer can be sometimes, they are very sensitive with kids. You better don’t discipline your children in front of your Boxer; the dog will take the child’s side over the adults’s every time! Boxers drool and snore, and I have to admit the drooling part of it can be pretty bad. And Boxers have the worst gas I’ve ever smelled! They can really stink you out when laying next to you. / But trust me a Boxer will make you forget the cons easily! The Boxer is a caring and loving dog. If you love Boxers they love you back unconditionally. / / Set of Two / / Gimme a break … / / / The Boxer – A Gentleman Amongst Dogs /

Shooting in really harsh direct sunlight brings unique challenges, but this photo opportunity literally unfolded in front of me. I was walking past Hamer Hall on St Kilda Road on a warm sunny afternoon recently when I noticed a person (see the foot in the top background) lying down on a concrete pathway, to soak up the sun’s rays during his lunch break. I was a long way away, but I had my 70-300mm lens on the camera, and so I thought I would simply shoot an image of the man’s feet and his dark shoes with their mustard-yellow laces as he lay stretched out in the bright light. As I composed the shot, this man with the long hair arrived, sat down in front of the first man and, almost to my disbelief, also lay down exactly where I had my camera trained. Despite the harsh light, I hit the trigger anyway. You can actually see just how bright it was by looking at his dark glasses, where you can see the reflection of the sun above. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F8, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 300mm.
