“Hearst Castle’s indoor pool” was featured in the groups (5) / Reflectivity / AMERICAS ~ Rural, Urban, Wild, Free – Expressions of Artists / ImageWriting / American Southwest / and Northern California Style 1839 views (16 November 2009) Photo taken in 2005, in Hearst Castle, California with a Canon PowerShot S70 camera. This indoor pool was modeled after Roman baths, with gold mosaic tiles. Hearst Castle is the palatial estate built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. It is located near San Simeon, California, on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Donated by the Hearst Corporation to the state of California in 1957, it is now a State Historical Monument and a National Historic Landmark, open for public tours. Hearst formally named the estate “La Cuesta Encantada” (“The Enchanted Hill”), but he usually just called it “the ranch”. The castle and grounds are also sometimes referred to as “San Simeon” without distinguishing between the Hearst property and the unincorporated town of the same name. / / The estate is a pastiche of historic architectural styles that Hearst admired in his travels around Europe. For example, the main house is modeled after a 16th century Spanish cathedral, while the outdoor swimming pool features an ancient Roman temple front transported wholesale from Europe and reconstructed at the site. Hearst furnished the estate with truckloads of art, antiques, and even whole ceilings that he acquired in their entirety from Europe and Egypt. Hearst Castle featured 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres (0.51 km2) of gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world’s largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds. Morgan, an accomplished civil engineer, devised a gravity-based water delivery system from a nearby mountain. One highlight of the estate is the Neptune Pool, which features an expansive vista of the mountains, ocean and the main house. / (Wikipedia)

“Happy Halloween!” was featured in the groups / Doodle Do, / Surrealism / The Love of Eerie and Enchanting Artwork / and Core [C.O.R.E] the original is an ink drawing on white paper. I saw this house one spooky night, after getting totally drunk and getting lost on my way home from a party. It had a very inviting look to it, small cosy house with a Venus sign on top – and I was sooo tired…. Even the witch flying around it on her broom looked very friendly, like she would give me warm milk and tuck me in. But the snake that was playing the watchdog scared me a bit, so I decided to stay away and just stumbled all the way home… took me about two hours to reach my own bed… Who knows what interesting experiences I missed…

This tee, depicting homelessness in London, was designed for the This is London Calling challenge. “Hee-hee London – tee 2” was featured in the groups Unconventional Artistry and Made In Digital. / 645 views (9November 2009) London is the capital city of England and the UK. With a population of over 7 million, London is Europe’s largest and most densely populated city with 4,679 people per square km (Office of National Statistics 2002). The London region is made up of 32 London Boroughs and the Corporation of London. 17% of the UK’s unemployed people live in London. The rate of homelessness in London is twice as high as the rest of England with over 50,000 homeless households. According to the Communities and Local Government estimates in June 2003 about half of the people sleeping rough in England were in London. The main reasons for the high levels of homelessness in London are growth of the housing market and ongoing population increase in the capital. Although wages are generally higher in the capital, they are unable to keep up with rising house prices. The demand for housing is increasing and the supply of affordable housing is decreasing. The Mayor of London has introduced a London Plan which calls for half of new homes in London to be affordable, to help reduce the levels of homelessness in the capital. Source: Homeless London
