“So tired, haven’t slept a wink…” was featured in the group Dimensions Look at this red eye! (well, when you can zoom in more, it’s also red in the inside, as if he hasn’t slept in days). Title inspired by the Beatles song. Photo taken in San Diego Zoo, June 2008. / Canon PowerShot S5 IS, 1/100 s, f/3.5, ISO 200 The Wood Duck or Carolina Duck (Aix sponsa) is a medium-sized perching duck. A typical adult is about 19 inches in length with an average wingspan of 29 inches. This is about three-quarters of the length of an adult Mallard. It shares its genus with the Asian Mandarin Duck. The adult male has distinctive multi-colored iridescent plumage and red eyes. The female, less colorful, has a white eye-ring and a whitish throat. Both adults have crested heads. When swimming, wood ducks bob their head back and forth in a jerking motion, which makes them easy to spot. Their breeding habitat is wooded swamps, shallow lakes, marshes or ponds in eastern North America, the west coast of the United States and western Mexico. They usually nest in cavities in trees close to water, although they will take advantage of nesting boxes in wetland locations if available. The wood duck tends to fly for prolonged periods of time after reproducing. Their personality is shy and skittish. (Wikipedia) / /
The Giant Panda is an endangered species and highly threatened. According to the latest report (2007), China has 239 giant pandas in captivity (128 of them in Wolong and 67 in Chengdu), and another 27 pandas living outside the country. It also estimated that around 1,590 pandas are currently living in the wild. However, a 2006 study, via DNA analysis, estimated that there might be as many as 2,000 to 3,000 pandas in the wild. Though reports show that the numbers of wild pandas are on the rise, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) believes there is not enough certainty to remove pandas from the endangered animal list. This is a small circular prayer chapel in which you find a ring of 33 marble pillars, lining the wall… (33 for the years that Christ lived – I found out on the Internet). In the center you find a prayer altar with this rotating acrylic sculpture of Christ. There is a light that comes up through the sculpture, and at some angles it breaks into all the colors of the rainbow. Canon PowerShot S5 IS, 1/15 s, f/2.7, f/2.7

As part of both US Highway 101 and California Route 1, it connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County. The Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and California. Since its completion, the span length has been surpassed by eight other bridges. It still has the second longest suspension bridge main span in the United States, after the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City. In 2007, it was ranked fifth on the List of America’s Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects. / Source: Wikipedia. /
