Nick Garbett from the Vampires…a dubb jazz band from Sydney. Ballina Hotel gig…16.02.08
When he plays, watch out for his face cos it gets mean! Thankfully Matt Smith isn’t mean, just a wicked guitar player. Playing in Jim Kelly’s Motown line-up @ The Winsome Pub 18.09.07
Richard Wright 1943 – 2008 un homenaje a otro diamnte que no deja de brillar / te extrañaremos Rick
Taken on the road.. the lights of the cars in front looked like guitars to me.
Frank Zappa in concert Sydney Australia, from my “Dead ‘N’ Alive” exhibition set. / One of a series of photographs I took in my early days of photography. / All shot on film using a Nikormat FTN. A wonderful hard working film camera. / In those days there was little or no security and no “Crash Barriers”, so I would make my way to the front of the stage and shoot. / Scanned from the original negatives or transparencies. Zappa ruled the stage. Always in absolute control of his band. You never knew what to expect. / As far as I know, the band in Sydney consisted of most of the following… Zappa then formed and toured with smaller groups that variously included Ian Underwood (reeds, keyboards), Ruth Underwood (vibes, marimba), Sal Marquez (trumpet, vocals), Napoleon Murphy Brock (sax, flute and vocals), Bruce Fowler (trombone), Tom Fowler (bass), Chester Thompson (drums), Ralph Humphrey (drums), George Duke (keyboards, vocals), and Jean-Luc Ponty (violin). Also available as an image in my redbubble calendar /
Lou Reed in concert Sydney Australia, from my “Dead ‘N’ Alive” exhibition set. This was Lou’s first trip to Australia and in many ways no-one knew what to expect. “Transformer” was a recent hit and from memory “Berlin” had just come out. Also available as an image in my redbubble calendar / / and a t-shirt:
Taikoz played in little ol’ Lismore last night to a noisily appreciative audience. My second time seeing this troupe and they just get better…awesome drumming interlaced with percussion, shakuhachi, movement and a touch of comedy. Last night’s performance also featured marimba and djembe. They’re headed for Brisbane next week, so catch them if you can. Taken using Nikon D80 & 105mm f2.8 /
the old ferry landing at Gig Harbor, WA.
This is another picture that I took on my recent expedition to Cowgate, Edinburgh.
Just a fun poster for a mate’s gig, which I used to get into Sketchbook Pro. Not a bad wee program for $20! I also well enjoyed referencing samurai armour and themes in this quick sketchy piece.
Meet Joe. Joe started out his life as one of the first tugs operated by the up-start Foss Tug Company—now one of the largest tug companies in the Pacific Northwest. Joe lives the easy life now as a private pleasure boat hanging around the Gig Harbor waterfront. The new owners have wisely kept him looking much the same as he did as a working craft (on the outside) which adds a lot to the charm of this wonderful old boy. New image old effect. /
Another teaser gig poster with the Samurai character, keeping it simple and monochrome to be enlarged and printed A0.
this design was selected for the Seattle show. Shirts are also available at AE’s online store at: / alejandroescovedo.com
Memaa this image is for you. / I got a little carried away this year, this is a 7 image panorama of the Gig Harbor fishing fleet being blessed by the local Priest prior to heading up to Alaska for this years fishing season. My computer really doesn’t like me, the image is 13” x 58” and a lot of megapixels for this old machine. These boats are now up in Alaska fishing and will not return to Puget Sound until sometime in September. /
This is my playground. Image of the Gig Harbor lighthouse with Puget Sound and Mount Rainier in the background. /
Burlesque performer Lillian Starr performing with Mojo JuJu and the Snake Oil Merchants. / Taken on the 11th of July 2009 at the Gaelic in Sydney More pics from this show on Flickr
my newest painting with monsters in disguise – they try too look cut but hey ! don’t believe them! for sure they aren’t cute
