When I first came to Redbubble, I only had a couple pieces to post. I always reduced the size of my photos before editing them(making them too small for here), just didn’t have a reason to keep them full size until Redbubble. Anyways, I threw this pic up, just so I had more than 2 posted. I didn’t really even like it. The original shot’s exposure was all kinds of screwed up. I edited so much, I was just plain sick of it. But like I said, it was a filler pic. I sooo did not expect the amount of attention it received, much less that it sold. I’ve actually grown to really like it too. So I thought I’d share this, and the original shot with everyone. So here it is: This piece was my very first sold piece. It was also chosen for the Featured Art Page (before group featuring), featured in A Photographer’s Craft group, and was a finalist in the May US Scenic Photo Contest. Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) with a dark twist. This was the first of my Dark Dreams flower series, most of which I have pulled from redbubble. It was also one of my first images here. Obviously it was photoshoped. I get a lot of questions about why there are scratches on it, it was to give it an old aged look. The texture would make it a great canidate for a canvas print… hint hint ;) This is the original: / I believe this is the largest image in my portfolio, and that is because it was taken with my old 35 mm SLR, then scanned in (I have a really good scanner that scans really big) If you are seeing this image in a group for the first time, that is because I just realized it wasn’t in any groups! I must have cleared it out to make room for newer stuff. This peice was my very first one chosen on the Featured Art page and was featured in Ebony and Ivory group. Tell me about your red boots. / These boots are made by Alannah Hill (who is not particularly one of my favourite designers but I fell in love with these boots at first sight!) I think they are just perfect! I love the colour, the brooch and the red ribbons. They are just so me! Unfortunately they are not the easiest heel to walk in so I don’t get to wear them too much, and I like to save them for special occasions so they have a bigger impact on the people who see / them! What’s the story behind you getting them? / Like all of my shoes, they were an impulse buy. I just can’t help but whip out my credit card when I see new shoes! My friend was working at the store where I purchased them at the time so I got them a little cheaper which helped sweeten the deal! So, why exactly do you love shoes so much? / I need one in every colour to go with my outfits, every style for different comfort levels, moods and seasons. Shoes to go with stockings and classic vintage heels that every girl must own! I can’t part with shoes, they have to be broken beyond repair or stolen from me. The Sun Theatre, Yarraville, Victoria, Australia. Wall art and greeting cards. An icon ot the western suburbs of Melbourne. I enjoyed many films during my childhood in this art deco building. Glad to see it enjoying a revival. SUN PICTURE THEATRE For Yvonne, Michelle and Margot / The world is revolving faster these days / How did it happen that twenty-four hours / Now seem like eighteen…or less? Back then / The Sun sign flickered day and night / Above the picture theatre, when we jumped / Off the Spotswood bus at Yarraville Station, / To ride the railway gates with the men / And boys, while the women stood back / They swung open like welcoming arms / Scooping us into the land of reel to reel Streamers propelled by light. In the Art Deco / Building with a half sun on top, glowing / Like an icon or cross on a church / Rising up over the sugar refinery, docks / And our real lives we never thought about / While we were in Hollywood, America / The good old U S of A in Australia singing God Save the Queen, while we stood head / To shoulder with women and men dressed in suits / And the other kids who knew all the words / To an anthem sung into our colonial heads / At school and on TV without needing a script / Or subtitles on the bottom of the screen / With a bouncing ball swooping over lyrics. At the matinee we sighed when the lights were dimmed / Slipping down into our seats and out of our bodies / Onto the screen where film goddesses always ended up / With impossible heroes we read about on Fantales wrappers / While we crunched through to chocolate inside vermillion / Jaffas and licked wafered vanilla icecreams. Chilled when the lights went out once upon a time / And the curtains opened to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho / Mother told me to cover my eyes while / She held my ears and screamed so loudly / A rush of shivers snap froze the audience / To their seats. Black and white or / Technicolor…she liked a good murder. While her daughters plagiarised musicals / To re-enact on the front verandah for kids / Who lived on the Avenue. Costumes, makeup, / Some lousy script of song and dance everyone / Sat through and wanted more of every Saturday / After Mum had said: ‘Let’s go to the flicks’ / And we came home from that dreaming place Where the Sun is now derelict and only lights / Up for vandals, who make fires in the dress / Circle, front and back stalls, turning the floors / And ceiling into charcoal as delicate as Violet Crumble.
