Red Pandas are found in the temperate forests of the Himalayas and some high mountain areas of China and Myanmar (Burma). Anatomical features indicate Red Pandas are most closely related to the racoon and similar to giant pandas and bears but are now in a ‘family’ of their own. Like Giant Pandas, Red Pandas have an extra ‘thumb’ which is simply an enlarged bone. In captivity Red Pandas can live up to 14 years but it is not known how long they live in the wild. / The Chinese name for Red Panda is hunho or firefox, due to their colour and similar size to a fox. The red panda was first discovered in 1821, 48 years before the giant pandas were found in 1869. The major threats confronting Red Pandas are loss and fragmentation of habitat due to deforestation; poaching for the pet and fur trades; and competition from domestic livestock. The fur of Red Pandas is used to make hats and clothing by local people in China. The fur hat with its long, luxurious tail at the back looks beautiful and warm. In Yunnan Province, this type of hat is still desired by newlyweds, because it was regarded as a talisman for a happy marriage in the past. The Red Panda is nearly extinct in the western part of its range due to human interference in its natural habitat. / The ‘Exotica Collection’ wildlife painting portrays the beauty of the shy Red Panda while creating an awareness of their plight.

Acrylic On Canvas Ophelia,Phoebe and Mel having fun on the elephant’s back….and elephant was pleased to have their company as well! :D This was painted in May’08 and I remembered I had a yearning to want to visit Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand :D..so that was why I painted these 3 friends having an outing with the elephant….because there are many elephant reserves there in Chiang Mai, where they protect these precious animals from harm. I was glad to be able to go on that trip in June’08 this year! :D / / You can view and buy my other “On A Giant’s Back” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:

This is a bit of a tribute to two of my favorite artists. Both of whom have made it on t-shirts in their own way. If you don’t know Shepard Fairey and Banksy, look them up – you’re in for a treat. If you do – I hope get this image. I’m sure both of them are bemused at their own rise to fame. (or notoriety).... Special mention goes to spikerama and his shoe thrower design.
LOCATION CAPTURED: GROENLAND GAMELODGE, Tolwe, Limpopo Province, South Africa CAMERA: NIKON D50 / Lens: 70-300mm F/4-5.6 D / Focal Length: 220mm / Digital Vari-Program: Sports / Metering Mode: Multi-Pattern / 1/500 sec – F/5.3 / Exposure Comp.: 0 EV / Sensitivity: ISO 400 OWLS / Nocturnal, erect-standing birds of prey characterized by large, rounded heads, large forward-facing eyes set in a flattened face and feathered legs (except for Pel’s Fishing Owl). Some have feathered adornments on their heads that resemble ears. Immature are usually darker and fluffier than adults. THE GIANT or Verreaux’s Eagle Owl / A large grey owl, immature is browner. / Told by pink eyelids and dark brown eyes at all ages. ‘Ear’ tufts not always raised. / Voice is a series of deep grunts ‘hu=hu=hu,hu-hu’; female and young utter a long drawn –out whistle that may be repeated all night. / Singly on large trees in bushveld and open savanna, especially along rivers and watercourses. 60-5 cm. This shoot was shortly after the “Giant Eagle Owl” swooped out of a high tree to a palmtree, close-by, and grabbed a “weavers nest”, with chics inside, and went straight to this tree with the nest in his claws. It still is under his claw. He ripped it open with his beak and had his breakfast very early, just after sunrise.
The Dark Hedges. On a street close to Gracehill Golf Course, south of Ballycastle in Antrim, Northern Ireland. These are 300 year old beach trees and are getting to the end of their natural life span so they wont be around much longer.
“Les Dieux sont tombés sur la Tête” A building in Bucarest – Romania Very interesting and dramatic concept. This is typical I guess from that big city that could mix very dramatic, old and vintage building with very strong and powerful advertising policy. A way to feel the powerful mutation of the society. Now I just can’t wait to take me a fresh drink ! :DDD
The Black Queen (The Warmother) / Artist: Simon Sherry / Biography: Danny The Queen of the Army all-powerful and mother of the heir to the throne but ever expendable. The King may have many Queens in his lifetime, each drawn from a pool of Amazonia Knights. It is the highest honour any Queen’s Knight can aspire too but one’s ambition is never to be revealed whilst a Queen still reigns. The Shaman often mind probe to make sure mutinous thoughts are never realised. In a Warrior Tribe love is never an option /
