RedBubble is powered by you! The members of RB are the heart and soul of the creative journey that is RedBubble. You nurture, encourage, entertain, challenge, collaborate and share with each other. The generosity of spirit that I’ve seen on RedBubble is awesome. In title I am the RedBubble bus driver but the people shouting instructions are the members of RedBubble. This is your site and your community. We listen and very much see ourselves as working for you. It’s sometimes a little hard to make sense of all the feedback (and to move as fast as we’d like) but we do listen and act of the feedback. One of the things that we’d like to do over the next few months is get more people involved in RedBubble. We want to hand over the keys. There are over 500 people hosting groups or forums on RedBubble, and we’ve been racking our brains about other ways to get people involved. Today we’re kicking off a ‘welcomer’ role. The idea of this role is that a few folks from the community will put their hand up to help new bubblers find their feet (they’ll keep an eye out for recent members and monitor the welcome forum). And I’d like to welcome and thank the first two welcomers: Colin Tobin and Imogene Munday: But I’m sure there’s about a million other ways to get involved in RedBubble that we haven’t thought of. So today I’m asking a few questions: 1. What roles do you think we should create on RedBubble? / 2. Would you like to nominate to do something? Or is there someone you would like to nominate for a role? You can either respond below or BubbleMail me directly here. Cheers, Peter

As I originally only had a small piece of sky when I was fiddling with the extract tool, I have now redone this picture, using a bigger and new piece of sky! This is the original version FEATURED HOMEPAGE 04.11.08 / This would make a lovely card for any equestrian loving person, be it, Birthday, Thank You, any occasion….... OMG the very talented RACHEL LEIGH has nominated JUST BOOTS for the Pay it Forward Group She said ” “I love this photo because I know how difficult it is to get good pet shots and the lighting is just superb in this photo. Boots is as cute as can be and she captured him beautifully!” To me this is the highest compliment, thanking you so very much Rachel :O)) Waiting patiently for his morning walk…... Boots our dearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has the unfortunate name, as being black and tan he has golden lower legs. He was born during the rugby world cup when England actually won something and as his breeder was a rugby fan she called him Golden Boots, after Johny Wilkinson! Started photography May 2008 Sold laminated print RB 23/03/09 BILLYBOY gave the most wonderful compliment when choosing Just Boots. I’m actually kind of glad this is in the Paws & Claws group because now that I’ve been given the opportunity to choose a picture from the group to single out, it’s fitting that my favorite pet picture of all time is right here so I can tell the world just how deeply I love it… / There are so many ways this works for me. The depth of field and selective blur draws attention to the perfect focusing on and around that amazing face, and I like the way the crop being slightly off center works so perfectly with the drape of the ears and the shape of the body. / The lighting is perfect and so natural… no blown out highlights or loss of shadow detail… the quality and direction of the lighting bring out that amazing detail in the facial fur and allows for that subtle reflection on the contrasting smooth surface into which he seems to be slowly melting. Also, the color space of the background matches the subject so perfectly that it’s a pleasing image to the eye even without taking the artistic level of the content into consideration. But I think what REALLY gets to me about this amazing shot is the affect the shooting angle has on drawing me into this pooch’s character. We’re down at his level, as if on equal terms with his world, and I feel as if I’m staring straight into his soul through those deep and all-knowing eyes… the connection between me and Boots is personal through this stunning image. This is a massive work of art and I am honored to be able to exaplin why it’s so special to me. Thanking you so very much Billy, it is such a wonderful compliment. xx Taken with my Sony F717, 800 ISO equiv. Lighting courtesy of my daughter holding a torch as there wasn’t enough natural light! Changed partially to sepia, then bluring and darker tones added for mood…..... Would make a super card ideal for any occasion, Birthday, Thank You, etc…. © Copyright 2008 Squealia, All Rights Reserved /
Sony H5 with M3358 close up lens. Cropped back from 3072×2304 to 1808×1360 and rotated it for better viewing. Yes I know I can up-size it back to 3072×2304 but that way you loose image quality IMO. Hence only available as card or matted print. If anybody wants the original shot or an up-sized version let me know. / / Have a look at my other photos. Featured in Kittens Group & As Is Group, June 2009. Placed in top 10 (#4) in Kittens Group “Blue Eyes” Challenge, June 2009. Placed in top ten (#3) in All Soft and Cuddlies Group Challenge “Cuddle Up Kitty”, June 2009. Meet baby Butterfly – possibly the cutest kitten ive ever seenfrom the RSPCA WA, Perth. I took the shot on a table, with a small black dog bed on it, and the blanket Butterfly is sitting on is placed on top of that. There was a window in the direction of her tilted head, so side-on to me. I used a Canon 50mm prime lens at about f2.2 to get a sharp nose and eyes but blurred background. I use this technique mostly when im shooting in very low light and particularly for the RSPCA as it gives an etheral and more emotive feel to the shots i think. The rest of this room was quite dark as the RSPCA movie was being filmed in it at the same time. Butterfly was too fragile to be on the floor with the larger kittens, so i took a break in taking stills of the movie making process and babysat her for a while, on my makeshift ‘studio’. Her story – This is a 5 week old kitten called Butterfly. She was found abandoned at 1 week old with her brother, wrapped in a towel and dumped in a park. Her brother didnt make it, and Butterfly has had her battles but she is doing well and will be ok. I was lucky enough to get to spend an hour with her taking photos and talking cat talk out at the RSPCA WA headquateres. She is so tiny and so cute…I fell in love. The RSPCA vet nurse is going to take her home as soon as she has grown and doesnt need monitored care. Taken with a Canon 5D and Canon 50mm prime lens @ f 2.2, ISO 800 1/200th sec. Natural window light used. Handheld. No editing. Profit portion of any sales will go to the RSPCA WA. Featured in Cats & Dogs Group (twice), and The Photographers Craft Group. Won “Best Animal Photo” in the As Is Group Challenge and is currently the Avatar for that group (14th Feb 09). Featured in Kittens Group & As Is Group, June 2009. Next week marks the beginning of November and in online land, this means people are already starting to think about what they’ll be placing under the tree. We can expect an official announcement on the shipping deadlines in a few weeks, but in the past, the cut off has been around the second week of December to allow the RedBubble elves enough time to ensure your products are sent off in time for Christmas morning. With that in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to start thinking about some ideas for maximising your sales at this time of year. The methods we’ve discussed in the past are all worth revisiting but the holiday season offers up some unique opportunities. Tidy up your profile. Just as department stores are preparing Christmas windows and your town is putting up festive light displays, think about how you might rearrange your profile page to appeal to Christmas browsers. bring more seasonal or festive images to the front of your art pages think about producing some new works that tie in with the season check your tags to make sure they’re relevant link to related works from your description field (see mikoto’s work for an example) Add an email signature to your personal email with links to your best sellers or more festive images. This is a great way to get your work in front of friends and family. Make something festive and free that features your artwork (and your contact details or links back to your work) and distribute it to friends and family. Free downloadable gift cards featuring your art, table place name cards, wrapping paper patterns … useful and beautiful things that someone may like to forward to their contacts. See here for some ideas and inspiration. Blogs and websites will be preparing festive posts, 2010 calendar wrap ups and seasonal stories. As it’s nearing the end of the decade, you can expect to see some big features on ‘the naughties’ too. Have a think about how you can creatively approach them with content. take some great photos of your cards, calendars, wall art or t-shirts write a wrap up of your favourite festive t-shirts (a top 5 from RB) if you have images from big events that have happened during the year (the Sydney dust storm for example), make sure they’re well tagged for search Get your calendars ready. If you haven’t got around to making up a calendar yet then get your skates on. They’re selling like hotcakes at this time of year! Let your friends and family know they’re available and offer to put together bespoke or personalised calendars if you have the time. Have your own Christmas sale or promotion. Some great ideas include reducing your markups for a limited time or offering customers the chance to win something when they buy an item from you. These are all great ways to make it easier for you to spread the word about your work. If you have any hints of tips of your own, or your planning any promotional activities leading up to the festive season, we’d love to hear about them below. Nat
I’m pretty sure this is what Fletcher is saying at the moment I took the photo. The object in question being a scrunch ball hidden under his jaw.
