  • Near Shelly Beach – Nambucca Heads.

  • Silhouette of a photographer in the hot desert mountains

  • In addition to the obvious majesty and grandeur of the Grand Canyon, I find that I most appreciate the subtle coloration of the stratigraphic layers.

  • Inside the incredible caves of Ballybunion, off the Nuns’ Strand, accessible only at particularly low tide and with low wind! We made the trip especially then got caught in an adjacent cove when the tide came in and had to climb the cliff to get out! / Canon EOS 400D 18-55mm lens.

  • Pike’s Peak as shot from Garden Of The Gods park here in Colorado….shooting in winter here can be really rewarding, especially after the very first snowfall, everything is so clean, quiet, crisp, and the color is always fantastic… A location that I always wanted to shoot under these kinds of conditions as I knew the color would just pop in the morning light. Minolta 5D / Minolta 28mm f2.8 lens / Singh-Ray CPL —-John

  • Vermillion Cliffs National Monument / Northern Arizona / (2009.OCT.29) Canon 350D EOS / Sigma 70-300mm Corel PhotoImpact x3

  • A view of the Grand Canyon from the top of the South Rim. A special processing technique in Photoshop was used to create the deep color saturation and soft luminance. My intention was to create a dream – like feeling to the overall composition, which is somewhat similar to my own personal feeling of absolute awe when I first set eyes on this amazingly beautiful natural wonder.

  • / Arches National Park, image of the Three Gossips located in the Courthouse Towers region of the park. Image processed to imitate a wet plate image of the early 1900s.

  • Stone and rock spires climb upwards from the ground towards the sky. Taken in La Paz, Bolivia (October, 2009).

  • The landscape of Hamersley Gorge is perhaps one of the most distinct and colourful in Karijini, with amazing curves of sedimentary layers leading the eye in all sorts of crazy directions. “The banded iron formations exposed in many of the rocks in and around the gorges originated more than 2,500 million years ago as iron and silica-rich sediment deposits accumulated on an ancient sea-floor. Over millions of years these deposits were transformed by the pressure of further sediments laid down over them, forcing trapped water to be driven out and gradually turning the sediments into tough, well-bedded rock. / Horizontal compression later caused the rocks to buckle, developing numerous vertical cracks, before lifting to the surface to form dry land. / A sharp drop in sea-level caused the rivers to cut down rapidly through the land, creating sheer-sided gorges. This, combined with millions of years of erosion, has sculptured the rocks into the present landscape”. (quote from tourism brochure) For a small time during my visit I had this amazing gorge all to myself. It was such a tranquil spot to sit under a tree, dabbling my toes in the water (although a ticklish experience thanks to the curious fish that you can see swimming at the bottom of the photograph) and just drink in the sights and watch the changes of light and colour as the sun progressed across the sky.

  • Stunning scenery in Ardnamurchan – I think it’s cnoc-and-lochan landscape; something about the geology seemed similar to Assynt, but further south and with fewer quartzite-topped moutnains.

  • A section at Naples beach in Santa barbara county at sunset. The low tide exposed the limestone layers under, creating hundreds of tide pools, and a colorful display of light and texture. Nikon D700 / 1/80 f14 / nikon 80-200 /2.8 / 1800 ISO
