  • Two soldiers from the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team stand guard in the rear hatches of their stryker vehicle while on patrol north of Mosul, Iraq. Many unfamiliar with the geography of Iraq believe it is entirely arid, but as this picture shows, northern Iraq is quite hilly and in the spring, the fields are a vibrant green because of all the precipitation coming off the northern range.   • This is a rugged little inlet at Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island, QLD / You can sit on the rocks above and watch young turtles swimming in the waves. The water is crystal clear and the waves build up into quite an agitation making it a fascinating spot to observe any time of day.

  • I love Africa, in a geographical and historical sense, so I painted it, geographically, like a map. I’ve added some interesting historical and geographic links from Wiki mostly so you too can get a larger appreciation of The Dark Continent…speaking of, I have just read some of Africa Explored, Europeans into The Dark Continent and the incredible expeditions these men such as Livingstone and Mungo Park took into some of the most inhospital regions in the world in the name of exploration in the time of the great ‘land grab’ of Africa is truly an amazing story of human courage and determination. Historically, there is no equal… Discover.. / Africa and the Ancient Saharan Rock Art, showing a green Sahara until 3000BC / south of that we find this incredible structure looks like it could be Atlantis… known as the Richat Structure. One of my favourite historical towns is Carthage, in modern Tunisia, a Phoenician colony that rose to be a very powerful empire, one the Romans wanted rid of…. led by Hannibal, the war hero who led his war elephants over the Swiss Alps in a bid to get to Rome and fight them off from Carthage, he failed…Carthage was razed into oblivion. Head East across to the famous Lighthouse, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World and the biggest Library in the ancient world which stood at the city ofAlexandria, current archaeological work there now is revealing lots of historically important finds. Sailing down the The Nile River to a place where the historian from 450BC Herodotus tells us about the legendary people of the Cushite Empire, with over 100 pyramids as ancient as the Empire itself and as many mysteries as pyramids is the age old city of Meroe, passing through it eventually reaching the country with the oldest human history is Ethiopia which lies within the Great Rift Valley, truly the most spectacular land in the world where you can find Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya, Lake Victoria, Victoria Falls and Lake Tanganyika, spectacular geography, amazing history!
