I think this also looks good in navy.
“Let us love winter for it is the spring of genius” / —Pietro Aretino
This version is a little bigger!
Billy Strayhorn, the creator of many well known Duke Ellington compositions, is an unsung legend of African Classical Music (jazz). He was a musical genius who composed the some of the most lyrical music in history, particularly “Lush Life” and “Take the A Train”. This original pencil drawing is rendered on 18×24 Strathmore off-white achival paper and is done with a soft blended texture that exudes a feeling of warmth when viewed in person. I hope you can experience a sense of the depth of the man. Listen to his music.
A great use of a dead electric jug. Yep, we used to boil water in it! Good ol’ Kiwi ingenuity
Inspiration and genius—one and the same. / Victor Hugo
James Carter, a native of Detroit, is a virtuoso reed man with a godly mastery of the saxophone. He is in line to join the ranks of the greatest saxophonists in the history of African classical music (jazz). He exudes a musical confidence and world-class showmanship that far exceeds his chrono / logical age. I had the pleasure of showing James his portraits. He autographed them both in ink with large signatures. One has a horn symbol he drew, with the signature: James “JC” Carter. The second portrait was autographed: “With Eternal Gratitude”. Upon departing, he gave me a brotherly hug. I was touched by his “down to earth” nature and the gratitude he expressed is undoubtedly mutual. His music transports the soul to the heavens. These 18×24 originals of “JC” are not for sale. The prints with signatures will be posted and available soon. This work is based on a photograph by Pat Smith.
John Coltrane tapped into the universal consciousness of humanity. This achivement afforded him entry and permanent residence in history’s “Temple of Musical Giants”. John’s openness and ability to embrace and blend multiple streams of cultures into his body of work is evident in his work entitled “Spiritual”. John is a daily inspiration. This orginal pencil drawing is 18×24 and is currently available for purchase.
A Royal Idea.
Well, who doesn’t want to be considered a genius? Here you are. I am not. [i.q. = 132] Last time I checked & it takes a 150 to qualify. Nice shirt though for those few who are or who just consider themselves to be. Maybe you just want to get one for your child.
The self-proclaimed “Greatest Of All Time” as he should be portrayed…perhaps Muhammad Ali IS the greatest fighter to have ever lived…certainly the best showman that’s for sure! Original piece measures 32” x 40” and is part of my “Icons Series”...created with my “inkrub” printmaking technique, along with red pastel, graphite on collaged mewspaper.
The first pulled print in the “Wave Riders” series, honoring the surfers who ride giants…inkrub print with graphite, pastels, and white conte on collaged newspaper.
A grain of truth washed out by the stream of consciousness.
I’m willing to bet on it…
