A bit of a play on words as Arianne Rothschild irons out the last bugs in her latest creation. I had this scene kicking around in my head for some time, and sitting in D|S for almost as long. I kept getting distracted by other things and working on other images or ideas but finally Arianne has worked out the last of the bugs.

Creative types have this down to a science—or do they? What does it take to move someone to the point that they have to “get it out”of their system, opening their mind, body, and soul to pour out their creativity onto the first blank surface they can reach for in their moment of genius? What is it that motivates artists? Why do we stare at a blank canvas waiting for just the right moment and position to make our first stroke? Every element of our physical and emotional being comes in to play. We visualize it in our minds and feel what is so eager to introduce itself. Artists communicate in such a manner that our conversations go beyond where words can take us. Beyond the depths of our existence to levels that surpass that of which even we are capable of understanding. Yet we know from the time the first stroke is made, as we move our way through the process of our work adding the final touches and giving birth to our creations, that everything is perfect. Then and only then do we feel compelled to share with the world. What is YOUR recipe for creative success?

A MAZING MIND / It my Great Joy to introduce you all to WILL HENDERSON. Will is my student of 6 years and I believe he is the next M. C. Escher. His wonderful mind is a playground of genius and as I often say, “THE AMAZING MAZES OF WILL HENDERSON”, he is a master of the maze, in fact ALL of his artwork is made up of mazes. You will soon meet him on RB as I have encouraged him to place some of his fabulous mazes on here for sale…. so get ready folks! You are seeing portions of 4 of his works which I layered over his face in this piece I created from my photos of Will and his artworks. I will allow him however to unveil them in his own good time. It is my honor to mentor Will as he grows as an artist.

This is a tiny tiny tiny (about 0.6mm) ball bearing from a teleconverter I was repairing last night. It just caught my eye on my desk and got me thinking… Just about every device with moving parts in our life – the microwave oven, the drill, the bicycle, the car, the lens, the clock, the car assembly line, the tanker, the roller skate, the DVD player, the air-conditioning, the JCB crane, etc… – employs this simple engineering feat: the ball bearing. It couldn’t possibly look any simpler – just a sphere – and yet it is relied upon, for everything from micro-precision movements in hospital operating theaters, to calibrating the accuracy of artillery, to huge mega-ton earth shifting, to a remote control toy car. Humble, humbling, genius! [Sony a350, Sigma 105mm macro, f:3.5, 1/2sec.ISO-100 EV +0.7]
