Langfords Store – Bainham / Historic General Store and Post Office, located in the beautiful Aorere Valley, the Gateway to the Heaphy Track, South Island New Zealand. / From toffee to t-shirts Storekeeping was no new venture for Eleanor, wife of Edward Bates Langford, when Langford’s Store opened in 1928. Prior to their 1900 Boxing Day marriage she had worked in her parent’s ‘Waimea Road tuck shop’ for Nelson College. / When E.B.L. relinquished dairy farming to become Postmaster in 1924 and began selling stationery to go with the stamps, he invested in a printing press, while Eleanor sold her famous homemade toffee. After trying unsuccessfully to persuade the Government to finance a Post Office to replace the locally-owned building, he turned his attention to retailing. / Lorna Langford began working for her grandfather in 1947, in the days of tinned loose biscuits and vinegar in wooden casks. She continued to work in the store until 2008, when Sukhita Langford took on the position of Storekeeper and Postmistress. A lovely mountain gorilla in Rwanda, it was such a wonderful experience to meet him. He is one of 380 left in Rwanda and his name is Ntakibazo. He is part of the Umubano Group, meaning “neighborliness”. Umubano has 9 individuals: 1 Silverback; 1 Sub adult male; 3 Adult females and 4 Babies. Led by Charles, the dominant silverback, Umubano was formerly a part of the Amahoro group. As Charles matured into a silverback of the same rank as Ubumwe, he could not stand being given orders and decided to stage a fight and challenge Ubumwe. The fight went on for weeks and then months. Finally, Charles managed to snatch from Ubumwe a few females and formed his own group. Since then, he has commanded respect and recognition from Ubumwe.

Rebecca rarely speaks but loves to sing songs she learned from passing missionaries. She works in her grandmothers small garden. Her Grandmothers house is almost falling down. A Parents Prayer for their sick child. / (2 Samuel 12:22) David answered: While he was still alive, I went without food and cried because there was still hope. I said to myself, “Who knows? Maybe the LORD will have pity on me and let the child live.” I am an Irish born Missionary living in London I spend much time living with the Kambari tribe, I get to know first hand the challenges they face each day just to survive. I also have the privilege of capturing not only hunger, sickness and often death, but the more happy occasions. This is Grace, and when I first met Grace in April 2007, she was suffering from Chronic Malnutrition, adn intestinal worm infection. This was taken in December 2007, and the difference in 2009 is wonderful. Thank you to all who prayed and donated towards saving Grace. Please do Pray for these precious suffering people in extreme poverty and for us as we press on in our mission to help them. I believe in the power of Prayer and a mighty God. I will never forget taking this photograph, as I was standing waiting for the ferry to come. Anyone who has been to rural Africa will know that things runs on African time. That’s why I call them Last minute.com. After three hours, these two guys came to me and said the ferry Had broke down on the other side, and that they would take me accross. So I got in, with all my camera equipment and a very wet Interpreter, who fell into the water. / One the way accross I suddenly realised that the large boat coming straight towards us was the Ferry. It was so funny. The fishermen refused to take any payment, as they said it would bring good fortune to the, as they had a white man in their boat. they both recieved Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Boots our dearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has the unfortunate name, as being black and tan he has golden lower legs. He was born during the rugby world cup when England actually won something and as his breeder was a rugby fan she called him Golden Boots, after Johny Wilkinson! Started photography May 2008 Sold laminated print RB 23/03/09 BILLYBOY gave the most wonderful compliment when choosing Just Boots. I’m actually kind of glad this is in the Paws & Claws group because now that I’ve been given the opportunity to choose a picture from the group to single out, it’s fitting that my favorite pet picture of all time is right here so I can tell the world just how deeply I love it… / There are so many ways this works for me. The depth of field and selective blur draws attention to the perfect focusing on and around that amazing face, and I like the way the crop being slightly off center works so perfectly with the drape of the ears and the shape of the body. / The lighting is perfect and so natural… no blown out highlights or loss of shadow detail… the quality and direction of the lighting bring out that amazing detail in the facial fur and allows for that subtle reflection on the contrasting smooth surface into which he seems to be slowly melting. Also, the color space of the background matches the subject so perfectly that it’s a pleasing image to the eye even without taking the artistic level of the content into consideration. But I think what REALLY gets to me about this amazing shot is the affect the shooting angle has on drawing me into this pooch’s character. We’re down at his level, as if on equal terms with his world, and I feel as if I’m staring straight into his soul through those deep and all-knowing eyes… the connection between me and Boots is personal through this stunning image. This is a massive work of art and I am honored to be able to exaplin why it’s so special to me. [portrait taken in Natural Light] : 16/11/2008 [AS IS] I was walking from one village to the next, in Remote Nigeria. one of the team noticed this young girl following us for some time. I stopped and spoke to her through an interpretor. We learned that she was 13 years old and caring for three younger Sisters. As she told us here story, I Felt compelled to return to her village. There we met her three younger sisters in the most extreme poverty. Both Parents were dead and no other living relatives. We spoke to the village Chief and the elders who pleaded with us to help the family. We did, as God lead us to and blessed her with clothing, and the following day we sent two of our field workers to meet with her and now they have a small regular income from our mission funds. UPDATE 5-8-2009. Mary is now at School. We pay her school fees adn her three younger sisters are well and happy. We need help with Susan, aged 9. She wants to go to school also. We need help with school fees, uniform adn text books. Can you help? will you Help? Lt. General Wade’s Bridge at Aberfeldy in the Breadalbane region of Highland Perthshire (Breadalbane means “Highland Scotland” in Gaelic). Shot taken on Saturday 20th December 08 in the middle of our winter. Designed by William Adam, Scotland’s best architect. The total cost was £3,596 or, in today’s terms, over £1m. ”... a freestone bridge over the Tay, of five arches, nearly 400ft. in length, the middle arch 60 feet wide, the starlings of oak and the piers and landbreasts founded on piles shod with iron….” (House of Commons Journal, 7th February 1734). The bridge was first opened to traffic at the end of October 1733. Wade regarded it the greatest of his considerable achievements in road-making. In 9 years he had personally supervised the construction of over 250 miles of military roads in the Highlands – the first engineered roads in Britain since Roman times. lt is now the only one of Wade’s 35 major bridges to remain in use as a public highway. Built for 18th century wheeled carriages, it survives to the 21st century as a great memorial to a great roadbuilding engineer. Wade’s Bridge is a Category A listed structure of historic importance (HB Number 20861) under the care of Historic Scotland. The River Tay, Scotland longest river, meanders across Scotland from Loch Tay before flowing out to sea at the Firth of Tay. Thank you to all of you who have donated and prayed for little Grace. She is now in good health and has made a great recovery. Praise God, I am so happy right now. Grace and other children who suffer so much Inspires me to work 12-14 hours per day sharing their plight with others and fund-raising.. I have not had the good fortune of ever having a salary for what I do. but God rewards me in many other ways. To see a child tat would have died now live and smile is wonderful. To empower the poor with more than just hope is what I live and work for. In Tunga/Zuga village, a remote village in Kebbe state Nigeria, there are so many children who are without ANY source of help. The village has no source of clean water, since their well collapsed in 2006. Intestinal worm infections, river Blindness, Chronic Diarrhoea, Malnutrition and other preventable diseases are killing and disabling many. We are making a difference and with your Prayers, Donations and support we can not only save their lives, refurbish the old school adn give them education. If it had not been for your prayers and donations for Grace, she would certainly have died. I am deeply thankful to you all. PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION. [AS IS} / I am a missionary, born in Northern Ireland and living in London. my passion in life is to help the poor in rural and isolated villages in Africa and India. Abhijeet in Hindu language means “one who is victorious, a star”. She certainly lives up to her name. 3 years old and already has faced abuse, and hunger. She was close to death and in much pain. Abijeet is one child we rescued through The INDIAN NEW LIFE MISSION, based in India. Her smile melted my heart and as I was told her story I could not help give God thanks for the few Indian Christians that reached out to her. With little money, they took her into the Orphanage, where now she is cared for. I now have sponsored Abijeet and for only £10 per month, she is fed, clothed and will attend a full education when she is old enough. I do not get financial funding from any Church, My own income is little. But I made my mind up a long time ago to share what God has blessed me with with the poor. I have not gone hungry, nor my family. I rent my home, and drive a car. My children are all educated and blessed by God. I have lacked nothing,because blesses the sower. Gods burning Love and Passion for the outcast and poor burns deep within my heart, and hopefully can be seen throgh my life and camera lens. Abijeet is a shining star and a true testimony of what Love and sharing can do. Please Pray for me, that I can bless many more suffering children like Abijeet. http://www.philadelphia33.org/ Jyotika in Hindi means [light] Jyotika is from the NARIK_KAR_AVARS gypsy tribe and lives in a Gypsy camp on the outskirts of Kallakapurom town. India. she has never gone to school because her parents cannot afford the school fees, uniform and text book. It costs £70 = $130 to cover a whole years education. These gypsy people are descendants of the Romany Gypsies. But here in India They are Classed as the outcast and Untouchables by Hindu religion. They live in camps where there is no clean water, Little food and no Sanitation. They have no land, little possessions and live in make shift houses and tents made from sticks and plastic sheets. Each day they make one of bead necklace and only get around £0.15 or $0.30. this is not enough to feed their family well, and there is nothing left for education or medical care. They are chased from towns and even hospital. Jyotika can however go to school and have a great future. Our Partner organisation based in Kallakurachi India, is the only organisation working with these NARI _KAR_AVARS, except Our partner, THE INDIAN NEW LIFE MISSION. We run a Children Boarding home, where we take disadvantaged children with parents consent and Provide accommodation, Education, Food and clothing. They Children return to the camps during Holidays. But Thanks to The Calvary Church in Abuja, They donated a Communications system and Our Missionary Pastor Jonathan called me. / The First thing he shouted was Grace is now completely well!. / Grace was very ill and would have certainly died, If it was not for some of you here on Redbubble who donated money for Medicines and continued treatment. God Bless you for your genuine Love and your giving. This is amazing Grace!. Her little body was infected with worms, that eat from the inside out. I am a missionary and was born in Northern Ireland and now live in London. My passion and inspiration to work and help these precious poor is born from my personal relationship with God. his love and mercy changed my life completely in 1986. 50 of the 64 children from this village have never gone to school. Mary is 12 years old and she cares for her younger brother. She never has gone to school like most in Tunga/Zuga village. I called this photograph “what If”. What if someone paid the £70 -$120. per year for her school fees, uniform and text books?. What if someone wanted to give Mary a future where she could learn to read, write, and what if Mary learned skills that would earn her money and she could help her younger brother also to go to school? / What if Mary had the change to be what she wants to be, a Nurse? Camera used Nikon D300, 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, shutter 1/250, ap f/10.0, exp 0.00, iso 640.
