This is an abstact interpretation of the sorts of weird creatures that float around near the black smokers of the deep blue as reported on Catalyst on the ABC. It may not be realistic but it is what inspired my drawing which has over 50 elements. Done on Windsor&Newton Black Cartridge drawing paper A3sized 140gsm and was drawn 2006/07 with an early set of gel pens (purple, peppermint, silver & pink). Thanks to RB for featuring my drawing on the home page, so honoured. As I do not have access to this size paper very often I only allow myself to to do a few pages at a time as a treat.

Only this time I’ve used a blue gel and home made grid….working from the studio here, not sure if this is too dark? Shot this with the 50mm lens on Canon 5D, f/3.5, 1/20sec, ISO 400. 580 EX flash dialed back to around -32, from memory….

Started as a gold gel pen drawing. Can you tell? / I took it into PSE and added the bg and inlaid textures. Not all gold is shiny and sparkley / Some gold is olde but no less goldie / It might look gold when it is gilt / Not natural but man built / Sometimes its other metals just looking old / Mistaken for old gold Golden Girls Theme:

A bold person drew the black outline / then metamorpised into a softy / and drew the squishy bubbles inside. / Is this a collaboration, / No. There is just more than one type of artist inside my skin. This was a series that i experimented with polarised gels, glass and stressed plastic. Taken with a Cambo 5’4 with a 180mm lens on a 6’7 rollback. Film 120 mm Kodak Portra 160.
