457X610mm / Acrylic on canvas Inspired by traditional Japanese art I decided to explore the elusive yet beautiful world of being a Geisha. / “Geisha” ( pronounced ‘Gay-sha’ ) means artist in Japanese. The ‘real’ Geisha was not a common prostitute, the first Geishas were men who entertained patrons through artistry. The Geisha evolved into being the role of a woman in Japan, holding the equivalent status to celebrities today for their time. / The different forms of art they performed were tea ceremonies, dancing, calligraphy, painting, music, not to mention they were and still are walking pieces of art. Hence, these amazing iconic figures have inspired paintings with a contemporary edge. / Nicole Whitty / WhittyARt / / / / / /
I saw an old block printing of a little man tossing paper into the air. I thought how simple and amazing it was. I wondered if there was any conceivable way to improve upon such a beautiful idea. The answer was obvious, everything looks better witrh a Geisha in it, don’t you think?

Made in Ultra Fractal 5. All I could see in this was a Geisha, so my imagination refused to find a different name for it. Geisha was featured in the FRACTAL ENERGY PASSION group on June 17, 2009.
