The horses of the Akhal-teke breed are famous for the golden shimmer of their coat. They are thoroughbreds (like English thoroughbreds and Arabians) and originate from Turkmenistan. The breed is thought to be over 2000 years old and is one of the very earlier horse breeds known.
this is the same image as “evening gold”, uploaded yesterday, but with a different background. It’s normally a massive job to remove backgrounds from horse portraits because of blending in the mane and whiskers. So, well, it’s an experiment. Feedback welcome!
This painting is dedicated to a beautiful horse named “Gazan”. His owner Dan Shalloe was kind enough to give me permission to try to capture this magnificent creature in oils from a photograph he had taken entitled “Golden Running”. Here he is Dan, I hope I have did him justice. I enjoyed painting him immensely! He is truely a beautiful animal….Thank you, Lin
On special days, the Turkmen people dress their beloved Akhal-teke horses with celebratory neck bands. Gazan’s is red.
I painted this watercolour from a picture taken by my friend Dan Shalloe, also available here on RB under his collection and named “golden celebration”. So feel free to visit his gallery to verify if I did a good job,-). Gazan is Dan’s (more his wifes ) horse but he got Gazan from us. / So I do have as much pleasure to paint our Ex-Gazan as Dan to take him in photos.
Beautiful original image by my friend and great photographer Daniel Shalloe. / Post processing by me.
