  • Words of love and lust

  • The words of truth and the images of love.

  • This was taken at Tennyson Beach, Adelaide (South Australia). Calvin was incredibly patient during the photo shoot with many surprised locals stopping to check out the semi naked “Sailor Boy”. Thank you Calvin for your strength and your enthisiasm.

  • I’d like to thank Calvin for his time and patience as a model. I was trying for the look of a sailor washed up on the beach.

  • I found this tiny little amphibian in a delicate pink rose blossom in the garden of a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club. friend at Kundabung , just south of Kempsey, NSW, Australia, on a BBQ and photography day in autumn. The ‘Pretty in Pink’ li’l poser sat quite well for this portrait and was most patient as I jostled about trying to get the best angle, light and exposure. My subject is a very fine specimen of Litoria fallax (Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog) , quite a common species along the eastern coast of this wide brown land. After a long very wet summer they could be found in great abundance around the rather extensive property and I had a great time hunting around for good subjects. An amazing fact I discovered recently was that these frogs can also be brown or a mixture of green and brown and can change their colour depending on their environment. • THE SUBJECT: / A misty, moody Australian bush scene was photographed along an old logging track seems slightly primordial. THE LOCATION: / In the wilds of the Willi Willi National Park , up in the mountains far west of Kempsey, NSW, Australia on a very wet and chilly winter day. / This view in the opposite direction to Into the Mist #1 . THE MAKING of ‘Into the Mist #1’: / I had not realised the difficulty in photographing misty scenes such as this but I soon discovered that even though the light was very low there was still a big problem with the dynamic range. Aperture Priority did not work for me here so I opted for Shutter Priority, 1/60sec being the slowest speed recommended for a hand held shot. With the mist being so close, the resulting f/3.7 kept the background nice and soft. / Even though few photographs were made throughout the day due to the weather and time of year, six of us in two 4WDs had a great day out in the bush communing with nature. / One bloke, who has travelled 250,000Km in such road conditions in his 4WD had never had a mishap until the last two times we were out in the wilds. Last time it was a fuel line fracture and a flat tyre. This time it was another fuel line fracture! / Fuji S9600: RAW, 1/60sec @ f/3.7, Manual focus, ISO80, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. • The Subject: / This li’l green froggy, all 2.5cm (1 inch) of him, is a lovely specimen of Litoria fallax (Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog) , a native amphibian and very common in my part of Australia. / An amazing fact I discovered recently was that these frogs which are usually green can also be brown or a mixture of green and brown and can change their colour depending on their environment. The Location: / On the grounds of a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friend’s property at the sleepy little community of Kundabung , just south of Kempsey, NSW, Australia. The Making of ‘Bend Over backwards’: / I spotted him deep inside the green, cool leaves and stems of a clump of Agapanthus. / Even though the frog was in a patch of bright light its right side was in shadow hence the pop-up flash with the 1/200sec shutter speed. / As I slowly and carefully worked my camera deeper into the foliage to get as close as I could, he turned his front feet inward and bent backwards so far, the skin on his back wrinkled! I knew he was ready to jump so I quickly focussed and made the shot. / As soon as I moved again he was off, leaping even deeper into cover. / Fuji S9600: Macro, Manual settings of f/3.8 @ 1/2000sec, ISO100, Manual focus, Pop-up flash at lowest power, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. • THE SUBJECT: / A juvenile Ardea alba (Great Egret) steps slowly and purposefully through the shallows hunting for a meal. THE LOCATION: / Photographed at Lake Cathie, NSW, Australia on a great winter day. THE MAKING OF ‘Pride’: / On a return visit to this out-of-the-way part of the lake I stalked this youngster as it looked for lunch while I was partially screened by trees along the lake edge. / Due to the conditions I was able to make an exposure aimed at a B&W result but had no idea it would turn out as good as it has. / I have printed this on Ilford Galerie Smooth High Gloss Media and so far it has not developed any colour cast. Fingers crossed! / Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/4.9 @ 1/500sec, Auto focus, ISO80, Hand held. / Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3. • THE SUBJECT: / Another springtime dawn breaks over this ancient land spreading its light and warmth and burning off the mist in the valleys just as it has done for untold millennia. THE LOCATION: / This landscape photograph was made from the lookout at the Mount Seaview turn-off along the Oxley Highway west of Long Flat, NSW, Australia. THE MAKING OF ‘Jasper’s Sunrise #1’: / Six of us from the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club, in two 4WD vehicles set out at 5am in time to greet this sunrise on our way on a day trip to The Cells State Conservation Area and the old gold mine there. / The ‘Jasper’ part of the title comes about due to the Jasper’s Village Resort sign I was standing under when I made the shot. / Canon EOS D60 & Canon 28-135 IR Lens: RAW, f/4.5 @ 1/750sec, 56mm, -1EV, ISO100, Hand held. / Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3.
