  • The wading birds have pretty well worked out their predator-prey relationships with alligators. Here a Great Egret strolls by the gator. The bird looks like it is trying to be nonchalant as it sneaks by. The gator look like it is glancing up, wondering if dinner is being delivered (but when I blow up the image and zoom in on the gator’s eyes, they appear to be closed.) St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, on Florida’s Panhandle gulf coast. Photographed with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 (10MP/12x Leica lens).

  • This is an older artwork of mine (from 2006) that I had forgotten about but some people seem to take a shine to. Created with felt tip pen and gold paint pen on recycled paper. • A pencil doodle done at work – scanned and finished in a loose sketchy style using Corel Sketch Pad on 30 day trial. I like the energy of the looser style. I seem to like the side view high speed stuff :)

  • These food carts, (I say food and not hot dog since they sell more than hot dogs nowadays,) are a staple in New York City. Around the holidays, most of these stands add some adornment to be ‘in the spirit’. I’ve been keeping my eye on them recently and finally decided to photograph one of them. Since it was nighttime, I didn’t want to use my flash, (I very rarely do), so I was playing around with the different aperture settings, etc., on my camera, while focusing on this particular man’s cart. Given that it was on Fifth Avenue, I was getting bumped by the crowd and finally walked over and leaned against the nearest wall. I took a few pictures from there but was eager to leave since even leaning against the wall I kept getting bumped, so I never got to see what I photographed. Much to my surprise when I downloaded this particular picture, I saw the neon sign, (the carts are pretty modern now!), that I had captured and laughed. Only in New York can you get a Cold Gator…yum! ;) Camera: Pentax K200D / Exposure Program: Normal Program / Exposure Time: 1/60 sec / ISO Speed: 100 / F-Stop: f/4.00 / No Flash
