The iconic center of attention for this festival is the massive and intricate water fountain that sits in the middle of Saint James Court. In preparation for the festival, I took my camera to the fountain and spent 6 hours shooting. In all, I took over 500 photos… To this day, this photograph remains my favorite out of the millions that I have taken since I first picked up a camera. • Every time I visit my mother, I come home with lots of beautiful flower photos, too many to choose just one, so I decided to put several together in this collage I’ve named, “Garden of Eden,” because that is exactly what Mama’s yard feels like! It’s a sight for the eyes and a soothing balm for the soul. The image of the cardinal sitting on the statue of Jesus is from my yard; there is a very old cardinal who loves to rest there. I think he’s got just the right idea. No better place to find peace!

  • Do not cry for me, Mother, seeing me in the grave. This greatest hour was hallowed and thandered / By angel’s choirs; fire melted sky. / He asked his Father:”Why am I abandoned…?” / And told his Mother: “Mother, do not cry…” Magdalena struggled, cried and moaned. / Peter sank into the stone trance… / Only there, where Mother stood alone, / None has dared cast a single glance. (Anna Akhmatova )

  • Then star nor sun shall waken, / Nor any change of light: / Nor sound of waters shaken, / Nor any sound or sight: / Nor wintry leaves nor vernal, / Nor days nor things diurnal; / Only the sleep eternal / In an eternal night. (Algernon Charles Swinburne) /

  • This statue, named The Genius of Architecture is in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. It shows a crowned woman with two male kilted children at her feet. One shows plans for approval whilst the other kneels to apply mortar to a pillar. It represents the crowning of the theory and practice of Art. Edinburgh Castle can be seen in the background. Designed in 1862 by William Brodie 1815- 1881 (not to be confused with the infamous William Deacon Brodie) the statue was not unveiled until 1891 ten years after the artists’ death. Brodie was a prolific sculptor and is responsible for a number of statues in Edinburgh and Glasgow including James Young Simpson also in West Princes Street Gardens and the bronze statue of Greyfriar’s Bobby outside Greyfriars Kirk.
