  • The Painted Lady group of colourful butterflies comprises the subgenus Cynthia of the genus Vanessa in the Family Nymphalidae. They are well known throughout most of the world. / In general, the Painted Lady is a large butterfly (wing span 5-9 cm (2 – 2 7/8 in)) identified by the black and white corners of its mainly deep orange, black-spotted wings. It has 5 white spots in the black forewing tips and while the orange areas may be pale here and there, there are no clean white dots in them. The hindwings carry 4 small submarginal eyespots on dorsal and ventral sides. Those on the dorsal side are black, but in the summer morph sometimes small blue pupils are present in some. • After Thursdays horrendous storm overnight- these tiny delicate flowers were still clinging fast to the fence-and as the sun made an appearance again the next day I took this shot of this gorgeous Purple Morning Glory-very wet but thriving. The central light is natural-all I have done is sharpen slightly and used SC to enhance the centre and darken out the edges in Picasa 3.

  • Made with Ultra Fractal, using several layers and masks. Thank you for the support and faves. :)

  • Garden of Love was drawn 5-9-09 / Garden of Love poem written 7-9-09 Garden of Love I had a dream sublime / that danced across my mind / I saw giant flowers in a garden tower / above two lovers dancing, There was sun flower / yellow and gold / Filled with joy amplified / full of stories still untold. There was a pink rosebud / innocent and pure / Waiting for her time to blossom / under the sensuality of his touch. Another was a crimson daisy / with petals outreaching / Longing to connect / and nurture through her teaching. And there was also big purple heart / that opened and radiated life / Speaking of spiritual connection to start / then followed the mind, body & heart Then there was a beautiful red rose opening / to full bloom under the rain of passion, / the breeze of trust, the sun of love and / the moon of romantic seduction And the lovers danced through the flowers / eye to eye, / heart to heart, / soul to soul, / They saw each other and they knew… They had found that elusive thing / a lover who knew the real in them and / could dance to the same heartbeat / until the end of time. And they glowed and shone and they loved / and all who dared to look / felt warm because they knew, / finally, this dream was real. By Anthea Slade

  • Best Viewed LARGE FEATURED in Backyard Macro and Closeups FEATURED in Young Snappers This is my first time in the garden with my new camera! I was just having a bit of a browse on RB and got a bit of a twitch to go and find something to take a photo of and this is the result. I headed down the Garden ( at about 10pm so well and truly dark) and being a bit creative I used the torch (origionally to see where I was going) and a couple of sheets of white paper over the end to paint the light onto the flower from different directions during the 6 second exposure. I did most of the painting with the white paper to diffuse the light however at the end of the exposure changed to pink paper (closest thing to purple) to enhance the colours. DETAILS Cannon 500D (RAW) / 18 – 55mm IS Kit Lens (35mm) / 6 Sec / f 4.5 / ISO 100 Minor adjustments in Adobe Lightroom including enhancement of colours and detail in flower and darkening o fht e background. I really had very little that I had to do to the background. By painting on the light myself the background was hardly visible at all anyway. I just clenaed it up using lightroom’s adjustment brush. Overall I am very happy with the outcome. Better than I expected so it was a good night’s work in my eye’s :-) Any comments, advice or criticism would be greatly appreciated Cheers, / Danny FEATURED in Backyard Macro and Closeups FEATURED in Young Snappers
