  • / “The Last Tulips” is part of the Series “Flowers“ All my Tulips are gone now…bulbs safely wrapped in their cocoons in the dark, ready for next fall…in my neighbour’s garden, their are a few survivors of the late spring…let’s celebrate their late arrival….the summer has hardly started, so these vibrant tributes to spring are doubly welcome....Janis Watercolour on textured Arches Paper… Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence / Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance / Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence / Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance ..Yoko Ono, / /

  • A beautiful winter sunrise onto Pikes Peak mountain from Colorado Springs, CO.

  • “Winter’s LIght” is part of the Winter Collection....painted negatively, in Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed Paper…others from the collection are below. Featured in several Groups including Landscape Painting and Watercolours…Challenge winner 957 Views There’s a certain slant of light, / On winter afternoons. / When it comes, the landscape listens
/ Shadows hold their breath ...excerpt-Emily Dickenson /

  • Following on with the theme (because I was just having too much fun)... .

  • / “The Bird of Paprdise” is part of the Tropics Collection...Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Paper…see more below.. Softly stroked by the mid day wind / near violently shaken with night gusts / moistened by showers and ripened by light / stroked by sun beams and kissed by the moon. D Rosenburg / / / / / /

  • Portland, Oregon / 2007

  • / “The Darkest Evening of the Year” is a semi-abstract landscape, that is part of the Winter Collection... the darkest evening will be this coming Sunday, the 21st of December, then the days start getting longer little by little..I could not resist adding some moonlight though. Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Paper… Whose woods these are I think I know. / His house is in the village, though; / He will not see me stopping here / To watch his woods fill up with snow. / My little horse must think it queer / To stop without a farmhouse near / Between the woods and frozen lake / The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake / To ask if there’s some mistake. / The only other sound’s the sweep / Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, / But I have promises to keep, / And miles to go before I sleep, / And miles to go before I sleep. R. Frost / /

  • “UNcertain Weather” is part of the Abstract, (see others below) Winter, and Trees Collections..Watercolour on Arches Paper…the poem tells the whole story… 257 Views Insulated emotions render / the discussion of the current crisis / nothing more than / small talk about the weather. The winds long ago whipped / the leaves from this tree / leaving tattered limbs / silhouetted against / a twisted sky. Grays, blues, whites / flashes of light and / an exaggerated startle to / the sounds of life. The crackle of / leaves under feet / causes fright when / the footsteps belong to / prospective lovers of night. Dark eyes pierce blue, / spotlights shining into / an eternal shadow that / warps light, shapes / days of confusion. Questioning the velocity of / the wind at night / and average rainfall amounts, / as reported by / an interested observer, / is skewed. There is no objectivity when / distorted hours / tick away into seasons / obscured by a stormy past and / threatening weather. The bark toughens, / hardened soil holds upright / the leafless tree, / she bears no fruit, / stands alone, / roots unseen. Hours and seasons become / irrelevant in a climate where / variations in temperature / cannot affect / the unexposed life. A smile on a sunny day, / a shield against oneself, / concealed realities, / a guarded defense in / uncertain weather. Stability captured in / truth imprisoned by / decaying leaves, / a tell-tale sign of / hostile storms and / approaching winter. There, in a heap, / at the end of the alley / the leaves have gathered, / a favorite hiding place / for a blue-eyed child / who quietly wonders / if anyone will ever / come with a rake / and disturb her / fragile peace. B.R. Duquette… / / / / / / /

  • / “*Piper Nigrum” is part of the Tropics Collection...Watercolour on Fabriano Paper…see others below.. Pungent and aromatic, piper nigrum (black pepper) has been grown in Southern India for more than two thousand years… The fruit, here shown growning on the vine, and known as a peppercorn when dried, is a small drupe five millimetres in diameter, dark red when fully mature, containing a single seed. / Along with other spices, it changed the course of world history, leading to the European efforts to find a sea route to India and consequently colonial occupation of that country, as well as the discovery and colonization of the Americas. Pepper was so valuable that it was often used as collateral or even currency. / Dried ground pepper is one of the most common spices in European cuisine, having been known and prized since antiquity for both its flavour and its use as a medicine. The spiciness of black pepper is due to the chemical piperine. Ground black peppercorn, usually referred to simply as “pepper”, may be found on nearly every dinner table in many parts of the world.
