Wendy Slee graciously bought 2 Cards of Wendy Slee’s Leaves in Wind / Much Much appreciation to YOU Wendy.. / I would like to share a Poem she wrote for this photo..good God.. I have never met anyone who can channel such poetry within minuets!!! This will be nestled by the Piece as a Co-Laboration.. Co-Creation. There is much behind the events that lead up to this very special union and I am forever in deep appreciation to RB to Know you all.. this is FUN! Breeze of Existance / By Wendy Slee Then as if through deep forests, / With their breath held waiting / Comes a stirring, a movement, anticipating… / Leaves awaken, heart quickens, limbs lift and extend / To receive the cool caress of a long welcome friend. / And you are here, / You the wind, / It is you that I know, / Yet know not where you come from, nor where you will go. / A free spirit you pass by me, / Yet somehow remain, / Swirling around me and through me, / Easing the pain… I ache to just hold you, keep you here for all time / But I can’t catch the wind / Cannot grasp what’s not mine…. / If I close my fingers, I’ll hold nothing but air… / If I reach out to possess you, it’s myself I’ll ensnare… / So I stand in your path, feel your breath on my face / And just bask in your spirit / As it moves through my space… / In the silence of your passing, the emptiness wake, / There’s a stillness that echoes with all you evoked / The power and beauty of the zephyr flies free / But your essence and magic has become part of me.

There’s something about March… all over the world, it is the season of change… spring… autumn… whether seeds are twitching in dark earth with the sensation of new beginnings, or leaves are turning crimson and decorating the earth in fallen red stars, change is on the wind in March wherever you are. You can taste it. So it was that this time last year, in March, my fingertips were twitching with the sensation of somethin’-a-brewin’... I’d had enough of my imagination lying dormant in an ambiguous yearning with a hunger for something that I just could not identify. I’d had enough of scribbling in margins, I wanted more. So I went where all good detectives go to find the answers – Google. And after joining a few writing centres, signing up for newsletters and entering a few pieces in competitions, I stumbled upon Red Bubble. I joined immediately, ga-ga over the never-ending pots of paint and albums of photographs… and words! Writers, writers everywhere. I was instantly greedy… devouring words with shameless manners. My hunger started to abate as I took my fill… and one of the first delectable morsels I came across was none other than LittleHelen. I skipped and hopped and wriggled with glee through the imagery of her scrumptious mouth-watering heart and then took my time unwrapping her words – she will forever have a field of tulips all her own in my soul for being the woman who introduced me to Good Morning Girl, one of my favourite treasures. I wrote to her immediately and thus began one of the moons in my sky revolving around the glorious light that is Ms Hells Bells. Three seasons later, it’s March again. In my world, the leaves are turning scarlet, the crispness of change is in the air… and when Helen recently inducted me into her Hottest 100, I realised how much change this ruby-coloured bubbly place has brought to my life in the last twelve months. To go from marvelling at Helen’s sassiness and creativity afar to being one of her interview subjects (a delight to experience) was just another humble reminder of how rewarding wearing Red Bubble boots can be. So, I have to say, with all my cards on the table and my heart open and bare, to all of you bubbly lovely pretties who have spent moments of your time reading my words and responding to my work, propelling me further and further along my writing tightrope, thank you for being part of my year of change. A bouquet of ruby stars for you all. And Hells Bells, for believing in me and cultivating me and encouraging me to grow and love and roar, and for being so intuitive and creative… and interviewing me… you gorgeous lioness… thank you.

View THE FALLING GARDEN / By Gerda Steiner & Jorg Lenzlinger Falling Garden / San Staë church on the Canale Grande / 50th Biennial of Venice, 2003 The Doge (Mocenigo) needed a church so as to be able to have a monumental tomb built for himself, the church (San Staë) needed a saint so as to be able to be built, the saint (San Eustachio) needed a miracle so as to be pronounced a saint, the miracle needed a stag in order to be seen, and we built the garden for the reindeer. / The visitors lie on the bed above the doge’s gravestone, and the garden thinks for them. Components: Plastic berries (India), cow pads (Jura), waste paper (Venice), baobab seeds (Australia), beech, elder and magnolia branches (Uster), thorns (Almeria), nylon blossoms (one-dollar-shop), pigs’ teeth (Indonesia), seaweed (Seoul), orange peel (Migros shop), fertilizer crystals (home grown), pigeons’ bones (San Staë), silk buds (Stockholm), cattail (Ettiswil), cats’ tails (China), celery roots (Montreal), virility rind (Caribbean), wild bore quills (zoo), banana leaves (Murten), rubber snakes (Cincinnati).

This is me!!! Nobody else was home, so I had to make do with using the mirror!! But at least it sort of worked ;D Here’s the garden too… Its so much like a real backyard with a veggie patch and rainwater tank!!! Green tank of course! Even all the concrete frogs and cats look happier ;D The veggie patch… includes pretty little weeds with pink flowers growing wherever they like on the pavers, plus tomatoes, spinach, phacelia and pansies!! / At the foot of those ratbag kitties is a frog encouraging all to grow!! / I have another frog like this one… he says ‘I tried but it died’. Doesn’t make a pretty picture as its in a dead pot plant (says it all really). Now you have seen my haven ;D
My latest camera…..a butter shortbread tin that has a nicely fitting lid. !http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:ma…
My latest camera…..a butter shortbread tin that has a nicely fitting lid. Just about everything I make is a prototype….that means it is the shoddy test version just to try out the design. The problem is that my prototypes usually work so well that I don’t need to make the proper version. This was easily constructed. I did some painting of black poster paint inside the tin and glued an old bootlace around the edge of the lid to help seal it (but I don’t really think it was that necessary…it already fitted very well, just another precaution). I banged a big nail through the front of the lid in the centre and hammered and sanded until it was smooth enough. I never have a drink can handy so for the pinhole I used a piece cut from an aluminium take away container. I carefully pierced it with a pin and sanded it flat as well as I could. This I attached with some very cheap shiny black cloth tape that I got in the $2 shop. I vaguely attempted to cover the shine with some of the poster paint. I did use a little permanent black marker around the pinhole. I constructed a swish sort of shutter that spins on a paper clip, but I think I could have just used another piece of black adhesive tape or even a fridge magnet. The best bit of the design is the cut up fridge magnet used inside to hold the sheet of photographic paper in place. My most successful exposure was this approximately 20 second one which had areas of full sun. It was latish afternoon. This one had areas of direct sun but was mostly in shade, exposure about 25 seconds, probably not really enough. This one was indoors underneath two skylights. I gave this a bit less than two minutes but it obviously only picked up the skylights and there was insufficient light to show any other detail. Try again! The paper I exposed in the camera was Agfa variable contrast premium mcp 312 rc semi matt, 5 by 7 inch. / It is at least 20 years old. / I made up a coffee and washing soda mixture and used it as a developer for the paper negative. I think I used 10 heaped teaspoons of instant coffee powder, 5 heaped teaspoons of washing soda and about 700ml of luke warm water. I was a bit sloppy about this as I wasn’t sure how much I needed in the tray. This developer works very slowly, I probably developed the paper for at least 15 minutes. One advantage is that it seems impossible to over develop….I’m sure in the past with regular chemistry I have watched things develop too fast and have failed to catch them at the right point. The only problem seemed to be that there was a bit of staining with the long developing time. I also sustained a few scratches on the print and I think in future I will not use tongs, just my fingers, maybe gloves. I might also try a warm solution and see if that speeds things up a bit. I used a vinegar stop bath and my ancient hypam as fixer. I don’t know how these negative paper images will last but I don’t really mind as I now have them safely scanned. I tried to scan them at as high a resolution as I could but my scanner struggles with 1200dpi and leaves strange lines. Then into photoshop they go, get inverted and twiddled a bit to bring out the best that can be found. I think better exposures will yield better results, but I am happy to have the system working this well. I could do with advice about keeping paper and film clean, not getting watery smudges and hairs and the like….any suggestions would be helpful.
