  • This is a garden fairy. She sits in my garden and helps my flowers grow.

  • I photographed this Dragonfly while I was out with my sister, taking photos of nature with her. It reminds me of a special moment in time we spent together! This dragonfly kept hovering over us and finally landed. Made for a perfect photo opportunity. You can also find this photo in my portfolio without a message on it. :) / Thank you for viewing my work. • With a little bit of magic and a lot of photoshop…..... / Dragonfly and some butterflies used with the kind permission of Edith Kangas.

  • There she went again, in the company of her flower friends. Ophelia sat down with a group of red hot heliconia ladies, she was so taken in by their tropical beauty and their ability to make intelligent conversation that she lost track of time again. There is no other owl who had as many flower friends as Ophelia :D / / You can view and buy my other “Red Hot Heliconias” creations at my Zazzle Gallery: /

  • Cross Estate Gardens – Bernardsville, NJ – July 2008

  • Bottle Brush tree – I am not sure if this is the beginning of the bottle brush flower or after it has flowered already. Will have to observe and let you know. I like the hairy bits. It made me think of a fairy broom or duster. At first I thought of a fairy coat, but I do not think I have ever heard of a fairy story where the fairy wore a coat! What does this trigger in your mind? Canon ixus 960i

  • Ophelia ,in her search and quest for fairies, suddenly stopped at her tracks when she caught a whiff of heavenly scent . It’s the journey and not the destination that matters most at the end of the day….so do take time to enjoy the blessings of the present moment, take time to smell the flowers. • Canon 40D with 300mm just in time to capture this lovely little thing on my Agave in my backyard. Dragonfly life cycle / Female dragonfly lay eggs in or near water, often on floating or emergent plants. When laying eggs, some species will submerge themselves completely in order to lay their eggs on a good surface. The eggs then hatch into nymphs. Most of a dragonfly’s life is spent in the naiad (that is, nymph) form, beneath the water’s surface, using extendable jaws to catch other invertebrates or even vertebrates such as tadpoles, fish, etc. They breathe through gills in their rectum, and can rapidly propel themselves by suddenly expelling water through the anus. In flight the adult dragonfly can propel itself in six directions; upward, downward, forward, back, and side to side. Some nymphs even hunt on land, an aptitude which could easily have been more common in ancient times when terrestrial predators were clumsier. The larval stage of large dragonflies may last as long as five years. In smaller species, this stage may last between two months and three years. When the larva is ready to metamorphose into an adult, it climbs up a reed or other emergent plant. Exposure to air causes the larvae to begin breathing. The skin splits at a weak spot behind the head and the adult dragonfly crawls out of its old larval skin, pumps up its wings, and flies off to feed on midges and flies. The adult stage of larger species of dragonfly can last as long as five or six months. /
